Let's see. Puppy/goat/horse murderer noem is 52. 30 years ago, she was running the family farm, had just given birth to her first child. Years later, she was in the SD state legislature. Came to D.C. as a freshman rep in 2011 (13 years ago, if my math is correct) , and newcomer reps don't generally travel the world bullying. . errr. .meeting, world leaders. Her family did not move to D.C. with her. She finally graduated college in 2012.
I was looking at some pictures of her from that time, and she looks very different. . Actually, looks like she and kimmie have the same plastics guy.
She is a liar and a total fake.

GAWD, how STUPID are these people? Do they not know that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is now available on record somehow/somewhere?
I'm sure IQ45 would NEVER understand why she's NOT worthy of ANY government position - but isn't THAT part of the problem!

(240 posts)What the heck happened to these Americans. We were loving our country through wars, massive change, the moon and more but suddenly we dont understand our fellow Americans? What happened? Are we just different? Or did they all get brainwashed from Russian style propaganda?
How do you undo the damage?
niyad
(118,648 posts)propaganda are at the base of it. And I had been saying for decades that there is something in thecwater. . and. . oh, look, drugs. Lots and lots of drugs that our water systems are not equipped to process or eliminate. And I have no idea how to fix all of this in any ethical way.

(11,767 posts)Iggo's analysis is right on in my opinion. There was a CONCERTED effort starting in the late 60's early 70's, especially after the Watergate fiasco and Nixon's resignation where Conservatives started moving toward creating a bubble for their followers to live in. The Powell Memo was a response to the consumer safety movement, ironically lead by Ralph Nader, that had seen regulations placed on corporations for the protection of the average person, and this movement to hold powerful people to account that lead Roger Ailes and Pat Buchanan to push forward with the right wing takeover of media.
These two projects took advantage of the average level of tribalism that has existed in American politics and put it on Mega Steroids. Still, only about 30% to 35% of the electorate are actually engaged with right wing politics, but that is not an insignificant amount of people. Capitalism and general apathy also play their part. News agencies in their pursuit of the almighty dollar, emphasize "conflict" and "both sides" and allow right wing propaganda to infiltrate into the conventional media. So right wing lies become the other side of facts and the media presents it as a valid debate of ideas.
I do agree with you niyad about the challenge of "the solution". If we go after the right wing lies like we should to defeat them, it would likely have to be behind a major curtailment of the First Amendment, which we don't want to do.
The only thing that I can think of is a VERY HEAVY LIFT which requires Liberals/Progressives/Further Left people to engage and win seats on school boards, city councils, County Supervisor roles, and build a movement to revamp the education system.
We absolutely have to develop critical thinkers who understand how to separate fact from fiction. We need to teach people to recognize reputable sources, rules of logic, common fallacies in argumentation, and how evidence works.

(11,767 posts)AOC is a young, attractive (in my opinion) woman. She is also super smart, articulate, and professional. She appears to be a genuinely decent human being as well, down to earth while recognizing the importance of situations and of her position. Jasmine Crockett is also a young and attractive woman, but she shows off her incredible intellect and sharp wit and fierce attitude in Congressional hearings. I would not dare to challenge those young women in matters of policy. Appearance is part of a person's overall presentation but not something that should be determinative of whether we respect someone or not.
Noem sounds like a fool. She is vapid and cruel and has either adopted, or really represents this caricature of a "tough Conservative" which is performative and designed primarily to fool people, not to offer any real substance. Again, perhaps the physical appearance is part of the whole thing, but I try to judge people based on their actions and what their actions communicate about their attitudes and mentality.
