Watching from across the border: Americans have three candidates for President. A brilliant Elder. An Elder Rapist. A self admitted worm eaten, brain damaged . . . Elder. What is wrong with this picture? You have 20 billion (there abouts) people in your nation and this is the best you can do?

(22,205 posts)And the "brilliant elder" should not be looked at as "the best we can do", but rather, he is the best there is.

(19,091 posts)Elders once were respected. Granted, only one of the 3 you mention deserve that respect.
But anyway, he has an A-plus backup. So, what's the problem?
I get that the other party should "do better" but apparently a rapist is what they prefer. And the other guy is just there for the confused. Unfortunately we have a lot of confused people in this country. Wish we could do better on that point, but lots of rich people get richer making and keeping people confused.

(2,332 posts)When you resort to hyperbole to a moronic degree. Namely by claiming that the US has 20 billion people, when it has 330 million.
One of our Elders is a good man, with an impressive resume of leadership and public service. Because he has taken good care of himself and enjoyed access to living standards and an unusually good health care system for elites in this country, his 81, health-wise, is in reality much closer to someone in his early 60s in many countries south of us.
And, honestly, I don't know if your nation is Canada or Mexico or somewhere else south of us, but I wouldn't get so high on the horse about 'the best you can do.' I can list several examples of how our Western Hemisphere neighbours have a long history of, shall we say, not so bright rulers, and certainly a fair share of malevolent ones.
I won't lie that things here are messed up, but all countries go through bad patches. Gloating about them from afar is both ridiculous and sadistic.
Try doing something constructive to help, rather than sneering at people who are suffering during a difficult situation. I can guarantee that your country will go through something similar--if it hasn't or isn't already, and that plenty of Americans will work hard to pressure our government to help your people overcome authoritarian regimes and movements. I was one of them fighting for the people of El Salvador and Guatemala, back in the 80s. It wasn't so hard to practice empathy rather than being a thoughtless wanker.
