It's not like he married her because he was madly in love with her. I think it was a marriage of convenience for both of them.

He married each of his 3 wives mainly for their looks and their value as arm candy. He probably enjoyed the company of each one for a time, but I doubt he ever really "loved" any of them. He's too narcissistic to be capable of that.

From what I've read, he cheated like crazy during all his marriages. His short attention span means he gets bored easily, and his narcissism dictates that he's never going to deny himself anything he wants if he can help it, so faithfulness was never really in the cards for him.

Ivana and Marla each kicked him to the curb when they decided they'd had enough. By the time he married Melania, he was 59 and had been around the block more than a few times. He was probably happy to have a much younger (35 year old), attractive woman to show off like a fashion accessory. She was probably happy to have the security and glamor of being married to a rich and famous man. I doubt either of them had any real illusions, and they both got what they wanted out of the deal, at least initially.

So yeah, his money was likely a big part of his attraction for her, but I don't see anything horrifying about that. He had something she wanted, and she had something he wanted. I think it was probably all very pragmatic on both sides. People get married for worse reasons all the time.
