(90,021 posts)Why does she stay? Even if it IS living in separate residences for 17 years and counting?
TBF
(36,669 posts)I expect her to bolt after that. She takes him to Europe to "visit family". If she has a brain in her head & put away enough cash she never returns.

(22,590 posts)Barron's 18 now, so TSF can't give her any static about custody. If she tried to leave earlier, he could have waged a nasty custody battle, and probably would have, just because that's the kind of hateful asshole he is.
He can't use child custody as a way to complicate her life, now that the "child" is an autonomous adult. Divorce proceedings in the relatively near future wouldn't surprise me one bit.
calimary
(90,021 posts)Yep. I BET you got the rationale. Barron IS 18 now, and he can get his own place if he wants to. And you're right - there won't be a child custody issue to fight over.
Maybe that's the main reason she's stayed?

(28,705 posts)As much as I've thought about it, I never considered child custody.
I wouldn't doubt that the two of them have had big arguments over Baron. There's no way Melania would permit TFG's influence on her son. The only way to control it all is to play TFG's little game.
It'll be interesting to see what happens after Baron graduates.
My very best to Baron.
it was the money. it was always the money.
TBF
(36,669 posts)she would've been very protective. She would just back down and bide her time. Now that he has turned 18 and graduates soon she can leave - whether he goes with her or not. It will be interesting.

(2,332 posts)Because she's as awful as he is, so they have plenty in common.
She's also well past the gold-digger sell-by date. Nobody's going to foot the bill for a 50+ woman who wants to do nothing but shop, go to Pilates, get kidney updates and sit on her arse reading fashion zines all day, which seems to be the full extent of her skill set. Well, that and knowing how to say ''Leave the money on the nightstand' and 'Anal $50 extra' in five languages.

(1,096 posts)Ok, I don't know how poor, but certainly without any desirable future at her beginning. This doesn't make her a good person - she isn't. But it might give us some predictive clues as to her behavior.
I think she'll survive as best she can. I'm (mildly) impressed that she seems to want to bring her family and son along with her.
I still wouldn't trust her behind me.

(2,332 posts)I don't know where you got that idea, but it isn't remotely true:
{snip}
The family struck a worldly image, too, vacationing in France, Italy, and Germany. Every room of their apartment in Sevnica was painted a deep, lush colorblue in the living room, red in the kitchen, yellow in Melanias room. Amalija, who got to travel to France and Germany for work, returned with colorful paints for the home, a rarity in Yugoslavia. She also came back from business trips with Western fashion magazines, which Melanias friends watched her flip through constantly. They had more than the others, remembers Melanias childhood friend Mirjana Jelančič. (She is now the principal of the school she attended with Melania, where there is talk of installing a permanent exhibit on Mrs. Trump, the schools most famous graduate.)
Jelančič remembers Melanias father, Viktor, spending every Saturday lovingly washing his antique Mercedes, another rarity. It was like a ritual, Jelančič tells me. After leaving his job working for the mayor of Hrastnik, Viktor, then a member of the Slovenian Communist Party, became a salesman at a state-owned car company.
{snip}
While working for the car company in Ljubljana, Viktor had an apartment there, in one of the citys first residential high-rises. It was a prestigious address and provided the girls a place to stay in the capital so that they could attend design schoolanother luxury. Meanwhile, in Sevnica, a place where most people still lived in drab apartments doled out to them by their factories, Viktor managed to build a house situated in what was considered the toniest part of town.

She's just as much of a spoiled, over-entitled scumbag as her husband, so spare us the poor pitiful Slovenian Skeeve routine. It doesn't remotely relate to reality.

(1,096 posts)I didn't know that.
However, I don't think that any woman would become a soft porn model and escort if she had better options. She has a survivors mentality for a reason. Doesn't make her a good person, just somewhat more predictorable.

(6,672 posts)and if she leaves, will he then start mouthing off about how proud he that she split? "Real men get divorced three times" kind of bullshit.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit.
