Steve Buscemi punched in face by stranger in New York City

What the hell is wrong with some people???

NEW YORK (AP) — Actor Steve Buscemi is OK after he was punched in the face by a man on a New York City street, his publicist said Sunday.

The 66-year-old star of “Fargo” and “Boardwalk Empire” was assaulted late Wednesday morning in Manhattan and taken to a nearby hospital with bruising, swelling and bleeding to his left eye.

“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” according to a statement Sunday from his publicist. “He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes.”

The assault was first reported by the New York Post. The New York Police Department put out a nameless statement on the assault Wednesday. Buscemi’s representative confirmed Sunday that the unidentified assault victim in the police statement was the actor.

My husband was hit on the subway on his way to work two months ago. His 86 year old aunt was punched in the face and knocked down a few weeks ago. Another father at my daughter's school was punched in the middle of the day on the subway in front of his two sons.

It's happening a lot, and most of the perpetrators are drugged out and need interventions. They're arrested and let out right away.

It's bad enough in the city that it's making me reconsider where we send our daughter to high school.

finally got him punched in the face.

EDIT: Omg, I was making a joke about Mr. Pink, the character he played in Reservoir Dogs, in response to a comment about that character. The tipping thing is a famous bit from the movie.

I stepped away for a few hours after posting and didn’t realize what had happened… thank you to those who tried to clear it up.

I certainly don’t want anyone to think ill of Mr. Buscemi. From everything I’ve ever heard, he’s a kind, lovely person (which suggests he does tip well lol), and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Let him try to serve himself at the same time as all the other patrons, dealing with a kitchen, bartenders, dishwashers. I wish him luck. It is a crime and totally outrageous what happened to him, I wish him full recovery ans some justice out of the ordeal - but he's a major jerk about tipping. Why give recognition to firefighters at ground zero - they were only doing the job they were paid to do, right?

Where he could walk down the street without some thug attacking him. I don't think we live in that world, anymore, and haven't for quite a long time now. Seems like most celebrities and even government officials are having to hide behind ever-deeper layers of bodyguards and other security measures.

A while back I read something in a Dorothy Sayers & Jill Walsh book that played back to me on hearing about Mr Buscemi's attack:

Once you have secured to yourself the sort of government that nobody dares to criticise, the way is open for the bulletproof car, the bodyguard armed to the teeth, and the iron hell of a discipline tightened to hysteria.
