--snip--
Patten the UN special representative whose purview most closely overlaps with the topic was named as the first of three briefers along with a civil society representative and a released Israeli hostage or relative of a hostage.
But in the updated invitations or concept notes sent out to members on Monday and also obtained by The Times of Israel, Patten was no longer listed among the briefers.
A UN diplomat said on condition of anonymity that Pattens withdrawal was not due to scheduling issues. The diplomat hinted that the decision was politically motivated, as her office has faced pressure not to be seen as prioritizing the plight of the Israeli hostages over that of the Palestinians caught in the middle of Israels war against Hamas in Gaza.

Moving into the tinfoil hat area, is this protection because the UN sees Hamas as the future government of Palestine? Hamas intolerance of the existence of Israel would virtually guarantee more conflict.

(69,647 posts)There are nearly 50 Muslim majority nations in the world. There is one tiny Jewish-majority nation.
Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, with 1.9 billion or so. In contrast, there are about 15 million Jews, most of whom live in Israel and the U.S.
In many nations there are essentially zero Jewish people.
It is heartbreakingly easy to ignore and oppress Jewish people, because they are a tiny minority.
