The government filed a motion to lift the stay that the trial court had placed on Bannon's sentence pending his appeal. As is standard procedure, Bannon is given an opportunity to respond to that motion. In fact, two days is a rather short time frame under the circumstances -- the standard period for responding to a motion is 14 days. Thus, it is not surprising that the government elected not to oppose a request by Bannon to expand the deadline from May 16 until May 20.

I'm only seeing his next opportunity is to take to the Supreme Court - or report to jail.

Here's the government's motion asking the court to lift the stay pending appeal adopted at the time Bannon was convicted.

Here is the court's order giving Bannon two days to respond. MINUTE ORDER. Upon consideration of the United States's 193 Motion to Modify Condition of Release, Defendant STEPHEN BANNON is hereby ORDERED to respond to the Motion by Thursday, May 16, 2024. The response should address whether the Court has the authority to grant the Motion in light of the Court of Appeals' stay of the mandate. So Ordered by Judge Carl J. Nichols on 5/14/2024. (lccjn3)

Here is Bannon's unopposed request for an extension of the deadline until May 20. https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.237438/gov.uscourts.dcd.237438.194.0_2.pdf

It is greatly appreciated. I'm not good with getting into court case documentation.

Regular people get convicted and go to jail. They leave the courthouse in handcuffs and go directly to lock-up. If they file an appeal, they wait it out in prison. If they say they want to appeal all the way to the Supreme Court, they get laughed at.

What kind of mojo do these MAGA traitors have to get treated like royalty. It is like our criminal justice system is embarrassed to trouble these prima donnas with trivialities like penalties.

It is people that are in power. The former Speaker of the Illinois House and Chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party, Mike Madigan, was indicted for 22 counts of corruption in early 2022. He still has not come to trial.

The standard period for responding to a motion is 14 days, so this still is a quick turnaround.
