One of the financial backers of The Apprentice, the forthcoming Donald Trump drama starring Sebastian Stan (and Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn) that’s debuting at the Cannes Film Festival, is reportedly incensed by the direction the film has taken, according to a new dispatch from Variety. It seems that billionaire (and former owner of the NFL team formerly known as the Washington Redskins) Dan Snyder, who is chums with Trump and has generously donated towards his political career in the past, was under the impression that the film would paint Trump in a flattering light. Instead, an early script for The Apprentice included a scene in which Trump rapes his first wife, Ivana, and the finished product includes a “violent” fight between the couple, according to an insider who spoke to Variety. Snyder is reportedly so furious about the film his contribution has helped create that he enlisted lawyers to try to halt its release with cease-and-desist letters and may not attend The Apprentice’s Cannes premiere.
