a suburb west of Des Moines. We lost power 15 minutes ago, but at least the wind is no longer howling at 60 mph.

The so called "Tornado Alley" has expanded as well in resent years if not mistaken?

I saw this video just now and you can actually see about 8 mini/smaller vortexes inside the big one. This is a rarity.
