Many say Jimmy Carter’s extensive resume in the political arena is still influencing local and national elections today.

While the peak of Jimmy Carter’s political career was his time in the White House, experts say it all started with a local school board race.

In the late 50s, Carter was appointed to the Sumter County School Board — which gave him a chance to learn about local government. But in 1962, Mr. Carter decided to take on new heights.
