Could we start a there's still hope thread.

I inherited my mother's pessimistic personality, and sometimes I can only imagine the dark outcomes. I need some potential positive signs that the dystopia the Magats want to turn America into, won't ever come to be anywhere other than their sicko minds.

I don't mean those over the top headlines You Tube hosts love to use like "Trump Completely Doomed," when one minor thing went against him.

But real efforts to push back that are succeeding, former Trumpers who decided never to vote for him again, stuff like that?

I think there are others here too, who might be helped by it as well.

Anyway just a thought.

They will always value freedom of expression, reaching their full potential.
Determining their own destiny. Equal rights.

There will always be courageous people willing to fight the good fight.
To stand up for We The People.

America's founding fathers knew this and created the strongest democracy in the history of the world.

I do not believe American democracy will go gentle into the night.
There will be an epic battle.

Humans do not always crave freedom and democracy. The biggest nation in the world, China, has had neither for 75 years. And there is no significant opposition. I could go on and on. The majority of the world lives with restrictive governments, and they are quite happy about it.

Americans have a tough time coming to that belief. They think everyone wants what they want. That belief has gotten us in no-win wars since the end of WW 2. Vietnam, Iraq. Afghanistan and a bunch of minor conflicts. All to promote "democracy. And all failures.

most people who have lived under autocratic rule for as long as the majority of them can remember, often fail at rebellion or don't even try to resist at all. China and Russia certainly fall under this circumstance.

But in places that have enjoyed rights for as long as the majority of their citizens can remember, that is different. If his theory is correct many U.S. citizens will start to object once more and more rights start being taken away from them personally in an autocracy.

I think a majority of the people who think living under a dictatorship is worth a try, don't have a full understanding of how they work. The dictators don't just take rights away from the scapegoated enemies, but often turn on many of those who they were formerly aligned with them, if those people have something the dictator wants, or they dissent with the dictator on even the most minor of points.

These are people who want their freedoms.
They won't even wear masks or get vaccines during a deadly pandemic.

They are in for a very rude awakening.

They assume they will be exempt from draconian leadership.
But they are wrong.

Trump uses everyone. Then throws them under the bus.

Well, WE knew all along. Surely the middle-GOPers learned their lessons?

even generating fear when it is absent, as we see now with Project 2025.

They are either diabolical geniuses or foolishly overconfident to say the quiet part out loud before voters go to the polls, when it would make more sense to say it after they were in power—once we could no longer do anything about it.

Bannon and Miller delight in stoking fears because it gets attention, spreads the message with its dogwhistles, and sends those who are prone to worry over the edge, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Commissioned polls are part of that strategy.

Don't let them manipulate you. They have not won yet, and they won't—if we work hard and don't give in to despair.

Btw, reinforcements are out there, and very available. Check out the Democratic, progressive, environmental, or Indivisible groups near you.

Our local Indivisible group is active! We…
- write guest editorials and letters to the editor,
- gather to wave signs on busy traffic corners,
- organize events,
- organize and/or join meetings with other groups,
- host monthly “Postcard Parties” at a popular local restaurant where we write postcards to our reps to nag them to support OUR issues or to stop ignoring what we want, and more!

We do quite a few of these gatherings-with-purpose, and everyone’s invited. We also team up with other local groups of shared interest. You leave these things feeling like you actually DID something to back up and spread what you believe in. It can be quite gratifying!

AND MOST IMPORTANT: you discover that you’re not alone in how you feel about the issues and the state of things.

HEARTILY recommended!

I could believe this, but I don't see it in real life. Everybody I know who is pissed about Dobbs et al. never voted for Trump in the first place. And I see plenty of women who don't really care because it doesn't affect them. Or they don't think it does. Or, they think a Kamala Harris administration would be worse than Trump somehow. As in - I would vote for Joe, but he'll never last another four years and then we'll have Kamala Harris as President, so I'm voting for Trump.
