(3,512 posts)Jesus!! Eat whole natural foods people. Processed junk and fast foods are killing the nation. Part of the reason for the dumbing down. Organic foods have come way down in price. Avoid those chemicals too. Grow your own if you can.
I wouldn't feed McDonalds to a dog.
Sympthsical
(10,960 posts)Which . . . kinda got left out. When the doctor in the documentary notes his liver problems . . . yeah, that wasn't the McDonald's, although he heavily implied it was from the food.
Fast food and lack of exercise are terrible for you when not properly moderated. I'm glad that the film was popular enough that it started that conversation.
But as a documentary, there was a lot going on with it that was very dishonestly presented. His health was a trainwreck before his first Big Mac.

(41,564 posts)I think America's addiction to fast food has led to obesity in many cases. Being overweight and alcoholic opens the door to other health issues. There's a lesson here in Mr. Spurlock's early demise, but we can't necessarily say it's cause-and-effect.

But the film also came in for subsequent criticism. Some people pointed out that Mr. Spurlock refused to release the daily logs tracking his food intake. Health researchers were unable to replicate his results in controlled studies.
. . .
And in 2017, he admitted that he had not been sober for more than a week at a time in 30 years meaning that, in addition to his McDonalds only diet, he was drinking, a fact that he concealed from his doctors and the audience, and that most likely skewed his results.
Pretty well documented that alcohol abuse is tied to liver disease, among other things.
But . . . it's trendier to blame McDonalds.
