Several veterans and military families appear to have been kicked out of the North Carolina Republican Party convention in Greensboro after trying to get attendees to commit to a pledge that would condemn violence incited by former President Donald Trump and respect the peaceful transfer of power, according to footage released on social media.
The video, posted by the liberal-leaning news outlet Cardinal & Pine, showed members of the groups Veterans for Responsible Leadership and Common Defense being ejected. "Time to go. If you're not a delegate, time to walk out. There's the door," said an official at the event. Veterans for Reasonable Leadership confirmed in a post to X that the pledge was not signed.
"We went to the @NCGOPs convention with a demand that they pledge to honor the election and support a peaceful transfer of power," they wrote. "They didnt want to hear from us. They havent signed that pledge. Until they do, their leadership and their nominees are unfit to lead." The group also has a pledge posted online for veterans to state their opposition to Trump. "An apolitical and non-partisan military is essential to our democratic foundations and is central to American military professionalism," said the letter. "We, the signatories, range the political spectrum. Without regard to partisan issues or disputes, we are simply seeking to address Trump's lack of character and the dangers he presents to our republic."
"I am not a 'sucker' for having served," the letter continued. "My friends who lost their lives in service to this country were not 'losers.' I will not vote for a person who says otherwise. Donald Trump is not fit to be President. I pledge not to vote for him and urge my fellow veterans to do the same."

(17,812 posts)military and the Republican Party. People in the military were mostly in the tank for the GOP back in the 80s and onward from there until relatively recently. Reagan supposedly loved the military and they loved him back. The Republicans have really fucked up their relationship with the military.

Not one of those flag-flailing rah-rah, armchair patriots has served in the military. They still have never acknowledged my honorable service, including deployment to the Gulf in 1991.

I stayed in the active reserves when I got out. A wealthy repub uncle once asked me "Why do you bother with that stuff" when he learned I'd be missing a fishing trip because of drill

(8,447 posts)Like when Tuberville held up hundreds of military promotions over sheer bullshit, when Trump called America's military leadership assholes, or when Republicans and Moscow Mitch McConnell blocked hundreds of House passed bills, including numerous bills intended to benefit veterans and their families.
MAGAS are however prepared to fight Americans to turn the country into a "unified maga REICH."

(17,423 posts)did this to veterans and their family at a meeting at their neighborhood playground, it would be covered by the MSM 24/7/365 and the NY Times would demand a statement from President Biden.
Funny how that works.
