New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman taunted former President Donald Trump Friday over the controversial biopic he's taking legal action to kill. Haberman shared on X Friday an exclusive Variety article revealing Trump sent a cease and desist letter to stop the release and sale of "The Apprentice," a movie about the president's early days. "Apparently Trump wants to make Gabe Shermans movie a success," Haberman quipped.
The independent film stars Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as his notorious mentor Roy Cohn, a prosecutor who served as a "political hitman" for controversial figures who include Sen. Joe McCarthy. The movie premiered in Cannes earlier this week and immediate spurred outrage from Trump, who denies a controversial scene that depicts him raping his wife Ivana.
"It presents a damning portrait of the former president as an ethically compromised, philanderer who stiffs contractors and cuts deals with the mob to get his buildings completed," writes Variety. "It includes other controversial details, including a scene where Trump rapes his first wife, Ivana, and depicts him abusing amphetamines to lose weight, as well as undergoing liposuction and plastic surgery."
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung has publicly called the film defamatory, Variety notes. This film is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesnt even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store," Cheung said "It belongs in a dumpster fire." According to Haberman, the Trump team has done the film a big favor by whetting the appetite of the American public.

(1,445 posts)absolutely nothing in the casket. Empty. Ashes dumped elsewhere perhaps and a totally empty box or a box with documents in it.

(15,810 posts)his documented history, millions of pages of evidence, videotapes, interviews with him, and those that have been unlucky enough to encounter him, REFLECT PRECISELY WHO HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR HIS ENTIRE MISERABLE LIFE
It would be like watching a documentary of Hitler, and being "surprised" at who he was.
Ivana's grave is really in the "least of the evidence" category.
Pretty damn scary that some of our friends, family members, coworkers, fellow parishioners and neighbors plainly see the evil, racism, fascism, misogyny, hatred and white supremacy and are ready and willing to elect him as the leader of the free world AGAIN.

(9,878 posts)Does it even get to "The Apprentice" filming years, or is that not considered the "early" years? Maybe the TV show is the mid-life years... I'll have to see if I can find out, but not through Raw Story.
Yes, can't wait to see it!

(22,785 posts)Okay, bring the civil case. Trump has lots of experience with defamation cases even though hes lost a couple to the tune of nearly $100 million.
Go for it, Trump! Sue the filmmakers for defamation. Lets get to discovery and depositions.
The story about Trumps sexual assault on his first wife has been known for years. Ivana originally called it rape but later recanted. (Trump was pissed because his recently installed hair plugs were painful and didnt make him look any better so he attacked his wife.)
In reality, Trump will sputter and yammer making a lot of noise but hell never sue. Hell only make the documentary more successful.

(1,831 posts)(the former) is first seen as a young man in the early 1970s. He works for the New York real estate company run by his cold and condescending father Fred (Martin Donovan), knocking on doors and collecting rent from his impoverished tenants, but he dreams of opening a luxury high-rise hotel near Central Station. The only snag is that the company is being sued over the small matter of its racial profiling of potential renters. "How can I be racist when I've got a black driver?" splutters Fred.
Enter Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), a notoriously vicious and unscrupulous lawyer who catches Donald's eye in a swanky members club. Cohn may be in the habit of taking meetings in his office while he does sit-ups in his underpants, but Donald is spellbound by his rudeness, his contempt for his opponents, and his three rules for success:
- always attack
- never admit to any wrongdoing
- never admit defeat
The fact that he is so open about using blackmail only adds to his lustre in the younger man's eyes. Cohn could be the encouraging father figure that the former has always lacked.
But it's still grimly fascinating to see the build-up of Boogie Nights-style sleaze as he takes to amphetamines, plastic surgery and younger women.

If nothing else, I'm considering watching Boogie Nights again. I think I saw it when it came out over 25 years ago, could be fun!
