Besides the calculations of the amount to be paid each month. Why would there be a beginning and ending date for payment? Wouldn't a retainer fee be payment last until either party gives notice?

Why would there be calculations by an accountant determining the monthly payments? If they were expenses why were they not paid immediately? Instead they disguised the payments as retainer fees.
