More Trump conviction speculation: If no prison time, what would a likely punishment be?

If only fined, is it likely judge Merchan would give him a consequentially large fine? Or would it remain an amount that isn’t even a drop in the bucket for him? Could he fine Trump in an amount that would force him back into bankruptcy? I’m curious if there is a punishment big enough to force Trump into permanently suspending his campaign.

There is no fine that would mean anything. Only a loss of his freedom matters. bullimiami May 2024 #1

Any income he receives henceforth would need to be prioritized toward his penalty. And if large enough, no financier would be able to bail him out (as is the case in the E Jean Carroll debacle)

Afterward, Congress should amend the protection orders for former presidents to include a requirement to remain a citizen AND voter in legal standing to receive Secret Service protection.

Give him a cellmate from general population once he goes inside for the full sentence on the documents case. Service men and women caught doing 1/100th of what is KNOWN he did are currently rotting in federal prisons. Make room for Donnie Two Scoops...

A big fine and a number of months of house (mar-a-lago) arrest that ends prior to inauguration date.

This avoids a number of practical issues and legal challenges.

My fear then is that Donnie would turn home confinement into a reality show with daily pressers and celebrity appearances, and the media would lap it up. "Gosh, we have to report on this unprecedented situation so we're giving him 80% of the airtime for free"

The judge has the discretion to order some prison time up to four years (and it would be concurrent, not consecutive), or probation or home detention. Considering that TFG has no official criminal history, he probably won't be sent to prison. Even if he's fined as much as possible, 34 x $5,000 ($170,000), that isn't much for Trump. Whatever his adjudicated punishment might be (and he'll appeal anyhow, so nothing will happen before the election), it won't be especially onerous. Anybody who had visions of him cooling his heels in Rikers can just forget about that. The worst of it for him would be the scarlet letter - F for Felon - but that will gnaw at him, and it will sour his mood even more. Maybe it will make him do something especially crazy, stupid and election-affecting.

I was looking for the specific maximum fine as jail is obviously (probably) out of the question.

not consecutive. He's not going to prison at all, though. I'd expect a fine and probation and a felony record.
