Until then, this could all just be Fitzmas wrapped up in Mueller Time.
There's always a reason the rich get off scot free

(1,616 posts)He may or may not get jail time. By all rights, his attitude and lack of remorse should earn him jail time. It still may.
But the only Fitzmas present Trump can get is probation.

(90,067 posts)Id LOVE to see him have to limp into the fall campaign with a conviction hanging around his neck.
Dare I hope for MORE than just one conviction?

(2,332 posts)He has no (official) priors, and NYhas some rather firm guidelines about how to sentence his level of crime. Probation and fines are probably the best we can expect.

(6,831 posts)I doubt anyone but the most orthodox have an absolute faith it will go down one way or the other, as the assertion, "there's always reason to doubt" is equal to "there's always reason to hope."
Me? I've got nether doubt nor hope, just curiosity of a particular unknown; I don't self-identify as intelligent enough to lay claim to ablative absolutes.

(94,288 posts)...this isn't speculation of a sealed indictment.
It's a jury already deliberating felony charges.

(9,611 posts)How will the hush money trial fail? Let me count some of the possible ways:
1. Hung jury. 11-1 vote for conviction in a country where 40% of the population supports saboteurs of democracy.
2. Conviction with only delayed probation as a sentence.
3. Conviction with consequences delayed by appeal.
4. Conviction with media amplifying Trump's Biden-corrupt-judges-partisan-prosecution-persecution temper tantrum 24-7.

(13,486 posts)The Mueller investigation was not allowed to investigate Trumps financial ties to Russia, an investigation we assumed was happening but was prevented by Rosenstein.
Mueller found 10 incidents of obstruction of justice, but refused to indict because of a DOJ rule that has never been tested in court, thus allowing Barr to lie about them.
Garland took office and buried everything related to the Mueller investigation, including any follow up on Trumps obstruction of justice.
The FBI tried to derail the search of Mar-a-Lago for stolen documents.
The DOJ seemed not to be investigating the planners of J6, choosing to go after the foot soldiers and ignore the generals, until the House Committee effectively forced him to act and appoint a Special Counsel for J6 and the documents theft.
And now, 31/2 years later, nothing has happened to bring Trump to justice. I hope New York succeeds in one small measure of accountability because nothing else is looking probable anytime soon.

(4,094 posts)when the verdict comes out, that is really when its valid, the rest is just conjecture, although there is plenty of information, but not on the jurors. My fear is that one of them may have been placed there to hung the jury.

(43,307 posts)This case (the cautionary tale to a Congress that should do a thorough judicial review) only proves how the rich can 'work' the justice system to delay their eventual outcomes, which is what the Rule of Law justice system is built for and now being stress tested for.
The justice system is working as designed. But Congress can make it work better in serving the the future to serve the overriding interests of the People of the United States.

(114,616 posts)because as a former president, even the worst one in history, he has to be treated with respect he didn't afford the country or anyone in it. The most he will see is house arrest at his choice of golf palace.
The thing to remember is that this will be punishment--no lights, no cameras, no press hanging on every stupid thing that falls outt of his mouth, and especially no pep rallies to massage his ego.
It will be torture to a narcissistic asshole like him.
