I have seen it in a range of people over the years. Really, what they are displaying is the result of brainwashing.

I used to probe a little when I would encounter it to try and understand how someone’s personality could be subsumed by such a belief system. I finally concluded that it was primarily the result of intellectual laziness. It’s easier to be told what to think and those who use it for control take advantage of it.

I still sometimes probe, but it I encounter cult speak I move on. Life is too short. Now my probing is to find those who have some depth to their beliefs. Even if I disagree with them, it’s educational to understand how someone comes to believe what they do.
