is that we cannot hold Donald Trump accountable for his crimes, because that would make America look like a Banana Republic, where they lock up their political opponents.
Excuse me, but do they think weve forgotten that at every single Trump campaign rally in 2016, they chanted Lock Her Up, Lock Her Up?
The GOP has taken on Trumps persona, exhibiting terminal hypocrisy, never ending shamelessness, and a complete lack of self awareness.

(13,480 posts)The difference is that Republicans knew Nixon was a crook and helped force him to resign. Todays Republicans know Trump is a crook, but instead of forcing him out as their candidate, theyre blaming the justice system not the criminal. That alone says Republicans are no longer the law and order partyif they ever actually were.

(8,006 posts)I forget the exact number of them convicted of various crimes compared to the Democrats but its like 67 to 1, maybe 2 of ours.
Need to check current numbers to throw in their face every time one brings it up. I know one thing, team trump are going to far exceed the numbers Nixon administration put up.

(22,218 posts)Thanks in part to corn subsidies and high fructose corn syrup. Ironic really. Most gun types I know, even up here in the relative healthier north tier, expend maximum effort just to get off the couch. They ATV into the woods during hunting season. Something I still chuckle about when my better half an I go on our spring wildflower jaunts and fall foliage hikes. May sound like "well, in my day" but still, we hoofed it for miles into the woods back in the 70's and 80's. Then, if one of us got a deer, we dragged and carried it back out on foot for those very same miles. Carting 130lbs of dead weight isn't an easy task. Today's crew can't physically do that in most cases.
Short story is they're probably not much of an effective fighting force. But then again, to your point, it doesn't take a hell of a lot of them to cause a really big stink.

(11,869 posts)We would get along well; everything you posted is something I have espoused over the past 22 years on DU. I don't hunt anymore. But, ATVs are my bane, and the lazy turds who see them as the only way to traverse the world. And when they retire to the "The Villages " it is in a golf cart.

(12,667 posts)And many people think it just means a backwards, undeveloped poor country. But turns out no. It has, or did have until Trump humpers started using it wrong, a specific meaning.
Here's the best short definition I could find from Wiki:
"The phrase banana republic was first coined in 1904 by American writer O. Henry. A banana republic is a country with an economy of state capitalism, whereby the country is operated as a private commercial enterprise for the exclusive profit of the ruling class."
I think we hit the Banana Republic stage when the Stinking Nazi became president.
All those huge tax cuts to corporations and the filthy-rich, while increasing the middle class taxes and taking away rights, subsidies and benefits from the middle class and poor. That made us a Banana Republic.

Trump wasnt convicted because of his politics.
Trump was convicted by a jury of his peers the consequence of his crimes.

(40,970 posts)It goes like this. Everything must go their way, Trump's way. Everything. All the time.
>> If Trump is being indicted, tried, & convicted it's a witch hunt, but if Biden or his son are, it's following the law.
>> If the senators & reps from a state win their elections but Trump doesn't, then the election was fair & square for them but not for Trump.
>> Biden's too old to run the country &Trump isn't, but Trump is too old to go to prison.
They twist themselves up trying to always have it their way. 🥨I'm embarrassed for the people I know who still support this party.

This is becoming a seditious terrorist threat. I hope the government is taking steps to potentially deal with this. The GOP may be trying to whip up another coup attempt.
