Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appeared to fault progressive former Rep. Mondaire Jones for not backing their fellow New York Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman in his primary race.
Ocasio-Cortez reposted an article Tuesday from The New York Times that reported Joness endorsement of Bowmans primary challenger, George Latimer. She called on Democrats to unite behind Bowman in her post on social media platform X to ensure that he wins his reelection bid.
Jamaal Bowman has earned support across the entire Democratic Party from House leadership and the Congressional Black + Progressive Caucuses to Labor + grassroots bc he is a proven, effective,& beloved leader. Dem unity means supporting Bowman. Thats how we win in November, Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X.
In his interview with The New York Times, Jones explained that he could not stand by and do nothing as Bowman became critical of Israel amid its war against militant group Hamas in Gaza.

(319,079 posts)Former Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY), running to reclaim his former Hudson Valley seat in Congress, disavowed Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) on Monday over Bowmans rhetoric about Israel since Oct. 7, and endorsed George Latimer, the Westchester County executive seeking to oust Bowman.
Jones told Jewish Insider the endorsement, first announced in The New York Times, was driven by Bowmans rhetoric on Israel and the impact Jones said it has had on the Jewish community in Jones own district. Bowmans and Jones districts border one another.
This is about me standing up for the Jewish community, Jones said. I want to be very clear about that.

(54,410 posts)House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has formally endorsed Rep. Jamaal Bowman, ending months of speculation about the embattled progressive's place in the Democratic Party due to his outspoken criticism of Israel.
Bowman faces a competitive primary in the 16th Congressional District as he seeks re-election. His challenger, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, is a more centrist Democrat who supports Israels ongoing invasion of Gaza. Top Democratic leaders in Washington had mostly kept quiet about the race until Jeffries' endorsement.
We stand together to endorse our colleague Jamaal Bowman for re-election, Jeffries said in a joint statement with Minority Whip Katherine Clark (D-Massachusetts) and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-California) released Friday morning.
Rep. Bowmans life experiences raised by a single mom in public housing and founding a public school serving low-income children in the Bronx have shaped him into a public servant who fights for economic justice and in defense of historically underrepresented communities.
