Maybe both Parties can agree that those on food stamps and Social Security will not be hurt by the political games going on in Washington? If they threaten to shut down the government or they threaten to not extend the debt limit, maybe we should have some preliminary precautions in place?
Perhaps we should be negotiating an emergency deal in case something is not done by the end of the year? We could assure the poor and those on Social Security that they will not have to go hungry. Will the Repubs agree to that??
We shouldn't want to panic people but they should know what is at stake? Don't you think?

and without them nothing wil get passed.
They have already promised the rich that they will not get hurt.

(11,619 posts)3. I don't think we should do that...
but the notion of a pre-deal with Republicans is pointless, in my opinion. They have not in decades shown any desire not to hurt the poor or middle class. They are not known for change.
