General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsJust a tiny conspiracy theory about the House Intel Committee.
From out of the blue, Speaker Johnson appointed Scott Perry and Dr Ronnie Jackson to the Committee. Their loyalty to Donald Trump far exceeds their loyalty to their country or our Constitution, in my opinion.
But why? Was it something he thought up by himself? Or was he directed to appoint these two gentlemen?
In my opinion, Trump demanded he do it. But doesn't Trump have enough things on his plate than worrying about who is on the Intel Committee? Obviously not.
I believe the House Intel Committee is a conduit by which Trump passes intelligence to Putin and the Russian oligarchs in this country.
Since Trump no longer has a security clearance for the secret intelligence, what better way for him to continue to receive the information than thru his sycophants on the House Intel Committee. I'm sure that is what he did with Devin Nunes when he was on the Committee. And Trump, Boris Epshteyn, and Vladimir Putin continue to receive national intelligence.
It seems that this would have been low on Trump's priority list, unless he was doing it for someone else? Isn't jail enough to keep his mind occupied?
In my small conspiratorial mind, Putin has his claws deep into American intelligence. He has used Trump since Day One, in my opinion.

Someone thought this up and it wasn't the Shartcannon or the Speaker of the Shartcannon House.

(980 posts)Its been about intel all along. What do we think all those boxes of intel at the Mar-a-lago Kremlin outpost is all about. I cannot for the life of me understand why he is not in custody. Unless perhaps this was discovered early and hes being used for funneling false info to Putin. I guess I can dream.

(1,530 posts)...I believe Trump feels, despite being his party's nominee, the Biden Administration will either deny him intelligence briefings, or will substantially curtail the amount that'll be share with him. This bit of rarfuckery bets him around that and should be setting off huge alarm bells in the IC and elsewhere because it indicates he has an outsized interest in obtaining classified information. Members of Congress, by law, aren't allowed to share any information discussed in the briefings they get, but does anyone trust an insurrectionist and his fellow cult member and former Trump Dr. Feelgood to obey the law? Especially when they think a Trump win assisted by intel info traded to Russia will allow them to be pardoned.
We have a dedicated Fifth Column in this country and if they're not stopped, we're headed for unbridled authoritarianism.

The big question is why do the MSM, the DOJ and the Intelligence Agencies look away while this is happening.
No one has answered that question.

House speaker appoints two Trump loyalists to intelligence committee
Very concerning that the guy who illegally took classified documents home with him and tried to hide them from FBI agents got a couple of his most ardent toadies appointed to the very secretive intel committee.

Or, better yet, leak them some bogus intel and see if it ends up in Moscow. Then, it's off to GITMO for those two "bag of dicks".
At some point, President Biden's oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, tr*×ps Congress' oversight concerns.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday backtracked on his push for a cyber security unit with Russia, tweeting that he did not think it could happen, hours after his proposal was harshly criticized by Republicans who said Moscow could not be trusted.
Trump said on Twitter early on Sunday that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on Friday forming "an impenetrable Cyber Security unit" to address issues like the risk of cyber meddling in elections.
The idea appeared to be a political non-starter. It was immediately scorned by several of Trump's fellow Republicans, who questioned why the United States would work with Russia after Moscow's alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
"It's not the dumbest idea I have ever heard but it's pretty close," Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told NBC's "Meet the Press" program.
Ash Carter, who was U.S. defense secretary until the end of former Democratic President Barack Obama's administration in January, told CNN flatly: "This is like the guy who robbed your house proposing a working group on burglary."

This week, Johnson nevertheless named Perry and Jackson to the House Intelligence Committee.
Democrats were not pleased. Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia, for example, called the appointments a disgrace and a threat to national security.
But they werent alone. The New York Times reported that the House speaker didnt even bother to give a heads-up to Rep. Mike Turner, the House Intelligence Committees Republican chairman, and PunchBowl News reported that Johnsons move is causing angst across the Capitol, adding, Several members of the committee Republicans and Democrats say they worry about the integrity of the panel in the wake of Johnsons appointment of the pair......
So, why in the world did the House speaker choose two unqualified extremists for the House Intelligence Committee, even after the panels members urged him not to? PunchBowl News report added this gem:
Johnson told fellow Republican lawmakers and aides that he made the appointments at the behest of Trump, who wanted Jackson and Perry on the panel.
Oh. So, Donald Trump wanted unqualified loyalists to have access to many of the nations most sensitive and highly classified secrets, and the House speaker followed the felons directive, as if he were an employee of the failed former president instead of Congress most powerful member......
And finally, there are broader consequences to keep in mind. The Times report added, The panel has historically operated in a bipartisan manner, and is largely composed of serious-minded lawmakers rather than strident partisans. The break with tradition prompted fears that the intelligence community might pull back on the sensitive national security information it shares with Congress.
Its not surprising that Trump wouldnt care, but Johnson has a responsibility to take such concerns seriously. This week, he failed spectacularly at a basic task.
