Who are they again?

It's easy to get caught up in the moment and lose the perspective of history, I know I have from time to time.
Steve Bannon recently made the boast that the MAGA movement was here to stay forever.
The boast reminded me of the Tea Party movement and their belief that they world be the dominant political movement of the 20th century.
There are some major differences in the two movements, notably TSF but there are also a lot of similarities between the two movements.
Both are overtly ultra-nationalistic. Both are overtly xenophobic. Both are racist. Both have significant Christian nationalists and push for a Christianity based theocratic government. Both use rhetoric that encourages civil unrest.

And just like the Tea Party movement, I honestly believe that they have dramatically overplayed their hand in drinking their own Kool-aid. It's one thing to say all that crazy shit to stir up the ignorant masses but completely another to get high on your own product.

At the end of the day I honestly believe that, just like the tea party, people will forget "MAGA" even existed at all.

Palin wedged the door open with her racist rhetoric & when she wasn't smacked down by the Republican Party or the media, they knew they could bring their hate into the public sphere & it would be up to the people to quash it.

We will. I really do think so. People are sick of their hate & nastiness.

was smart enough to know that their influence was limited as a third party so the decided to take over the GOP lock, stock, and barrel and they were ripe for taking over. In our town the local tea party leader switched to republican and became the local GOP leader.

And before that the Gingrich fascists.

And before that the traitor reaganites and immoral minority.

And before that the Nixonites...

And before that the Goldwater supporters...

And before that the many spokes of the Jim Crow wheel...

They've always been out there, always obnoxious, and never very quiet about it.

where you are wrong.
Trump is not the problem, he is a symptom (not at all unlike diarrhea). MAGA is nothing more than the original "Tea Party", just 100X? larger now (and growing). We can't think of these people in the same fashion that we see ourselves. Post Trump, there will just be another. That is why I insist we must fight this battle using policy and ideals, not by trying to toss him in jail. We have to win on merit, policy, and message; that is the only way to draw more support and siphon it from the other side. Again, it is the ONLY way.

Tossing anyone in jail and to imply otherwise is a rightwing talking point.
TSF had a fair trial and was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of his peers.

Everything you disagree with isn't a "right wing talking point". It's a way to get a jury to remove things that make you uncomfortable.
Second. It IS NOT a fucking "right wing talking point". It's a fucking point. Guilt aside, I think it was a bad idea to pursue this. So go ahead, call me a fucking right-winger again because I see the flaw in this approach. Geez.
Third. I never argued that Trump wasn't guilty. If someone is hearing other things that I didn't say, look for the source and don't try putting this shit on me. It's getting really old.
Four. "we" aren't tossing anyone in jail, but to deny that has been the desired outcome of most people here is dishonest or blind, one or the other. Again, don't put that bullshit off on me because I point at it. I'll insist that him going to jail will not only be bad for Trump, it will be bad for us as well when it comes election day.
five. I NEVER SAID A DAMN THING about it "not being a fair trial". Unless you can point to a quote where I said these things, get off me, it's bullshit.
It may be best if you put me on ignore. That will help prevent things being heard that I never said.

The point I made in response to that and that alone was that no one tossed him in jail. He committed a crime. A grand jury indicted him. He was given a jury trial and found guilty.
The clear implication of your statement is the rightwing talking point that we are trying to throw our political rivals in jail. That is not what happened. If TSF goes to jail, the only person that put him there is him.
The implications of your statement is that society should ignore his crimes. That is not a solution. That is empowering him to commit crimes without fear of consequences.
If I'm being perfectly honest if holding him accountable costs Democrats the election than our country is already lost.

They've always been amongst us. The MAGA crowd consists of the exact same people as the women in this photo:

They've been here since at least 1619. This country was built on hate.

I lived near Branson Missouri (because of family) for a few years back in the 2000s. I worked in Branson for a while and saw a few of their early gatherings in parking lots while there. Many were wearing those corny "tea bag" hats and they were a bunch of screaming nonsensical idiots. They made me sick even then, now they are maggots....
