UK election: Rishi Sunak's D-Day disaster -- latest updates

It’s been a hellish day of election campaigning for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The Conservative leader has had to apologize for cutting short a D-day event to record an ITV News election interview. The row undermined Tory efforts to focus on childcare today.

Over in Labour land, the party’s heavy-hitters have officially signed off on their manifesto — so expect plenty of internal rows over what has and hasn’t made the cut.

Elsewhere, nominations for candidates for the election closed at 4 p.m. Then this evening, expect fireworks at a seven-way TV debate on the BBC, which kicks off at 7.30 p.m.
