Wouldnt banning contraceptives be the death of a major industry in the US? See below. I think the democrats should discuss this harm to our economy as well as taking away our privacy rights.
Thoughts?
The US contraceptive market was valued at around $21.5 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $39.8 billion by 2032. The female contraceptive market alone is expected to grow from $7.8 billion in 2022 to $8.2 billion by 2032. The US is also expected to maintain its lead in the 7MM contraceptive market, which includes France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, the UK, and the US, and command 76.6% of the market by 2032.

(15,359 posts)they don't have seven or eight kids. At least very few of them.
In most cases they will have benefitted from birth control their entire adult lives. If the claim is somehow, it's some kind of an abortion now, that's retroactive. If you can be presumed to have had any number of those same abortions or your partner did, STFU!

(3,209 posts)...and other Catholic right-wing media like (Ir)-Relevant Radio. So many of the women are beyond their childbearing years, and many are also late-in-life converts who never had large families themselves. And when you look into the personal histories of the younger "stars", you also don't see them practicing what they preach. Numerous show hosts are Millennials or Gen Xers who should have at least several children by now, but that is so rarely the case. One wonders if part of the problem is that these media organizations pay such lousy wages that the talent can't afford to have multiple children!
Another good example is Lila Rose, founder of the radical anti-abortion group Live Action, who is always featured on the radtrad networks (she's an Opus Dei convert). She's 35 and only just recently had a son.

(13,459 posts)All they care about is forcing women into a box to deny them any future beyond being a stay-at-home baby machine.
Those who approve of Trumps plan to put undocumented people in concentration camps and deport them also have no clue about the economic calamity that would result from removing millions of workers from our food supply chain, building trades, and other industries. Their racism is against letting any black and brown people into the country.

(981 posts)Why are contraceptives so damn expensive? They've been around forever. I was laid off from my job. Barely making ends meet and needed contraception. I was floored that my insurance didn't cover it and shocked that is was over $50 a month. This was back in 2001. I could not afford it. Got pregnant, learned that my insurance didn't cover pregnancy. I sued for contraception coverage and ended up losing at the appeal level. It was an experience that changed me forever. I now wonder, why are women paying so much money for this medication and why such barriers? And in case you are wondering, my son is 22 and works for that same damn company. I looked at their benefit package and they cover pregnancy now. They decided to also voluntarily cover contraception, though I don't know if that ever stuck. They just wanted to humiliate us women and show their force. They finally realized how an ounce of prevention is cheaper in the long run.

(4,058 posts)... is just the start. Women are an easy target, and a popular one with socially inept Incels, and insecure Macho Jockstraps, who are, almost always, Republicans. The Conservative patriarchy craves total dominion over the lives of others, and subjugating women is the expedient first step. Remember the word, "FIRST".
They get the loudmouthed yahoos on the bandwagon, and the room-temperature IQs quickly follow. Now, the religious zealots LOVE this indoctrination shit, so they don't want to be left out, and pretty soon ya got yerself a movement, Baby!
So, lessee... ban abortions. Check. Hamstring ANY efforts to circumvent draconian laws by going out of state. Check. Ban contraceptives again. Workin' on it.
Now, about that damned 19th Amendment... Oh, and no more bank accounts in her own name, or credit cards, or owning property. Ooo! Let's do driver's licenses, too.
See the logical progression of this evil shit? This is not hyperbole, four of those five listed above have already been proposed In PUBLIC by frothing-at-the-mouth Republican candidates for elective office.
As the old saying goes, when someone tells you who or what they are, BELIEVE THEM THE FIRST TIME!
As I said, remember the word, "FIRST". Attacking the rights of half the population is just the FIRST step. Subjugating the other half... coming right up, boys, so brace yourselves.
Don't doubt it for a second.

Well, I don't want to be a handmaiden or a Stepford Wife. I remember when I lost my period for several months as a college student in early 2001. I was a 21-year-old virgin and was not dating anyone at that time. It was probably because of stress that my cycle stopped. I went to my family doctor and she offered to put me on birth control as a solution. As it turns out, my period resumed on its own and I didn't need to fill the prescription. Still, it's nice to know that I had that option.
What a lot of the Grand Old Patriarchy is too dim to realize is that sometimes women use birth control for reasons that have nothing to do with pregnancy. I am also disappointed that doctors en masse have not risen up to fight back against these draconian and barbaric measures. Women are bleeding out on ER floors and/or dying of sepsis now. This really is a war on women and it needs to STOP!!!

(26,314 posts)and the same goes for the extremists pushing it.
Go right at them and shove it down their stinking maws.
Don't play the debate or difference of opinion game at all.
Don't give any Republican or any bullshit flavor of conservative the benefit if the doubt on this either.

(179,092 posts)Johnson and other believe that we need more babies to limit the number of migrants and to supply sufficient workers. That was one of the underlying basis for Dobbs and is the reason why the GOP will not support the contraception bill
The Dobb's case discussed the "domestic supply of infants."
