"SNIP.............
No presidential candidate in his right mind would say out loud for everyone to hear that he wants to establish for himself, in the words of Time magazine reporter Eric Cortellessa, an imperial presidency.
But thats what he did. Over and over, in two long interviews with Cortellessa, published last week, the former president said he would turn the office of the president into something no one alive has seen.
Trump said, for instance, he would withhold funding for things he doesnt like even if funding for those things had been approved by an act of Congress. To spell out its essence, this is what hes saying:
I would do the same thing I was impeached for the first time, and I would do it, as you can see from my saying this out loud for everyone to hear, with absolute impunity, not only for the rule of law and the Constitution but for the democratic institution that impeached me.

(9,354 posts)The only evidence would be comparing his adult behavior to the behavior of adults who are known to have been sexually aboused. I don't have a list, but there have been studies doen. I also don't know whether there is a consensus.

(2,843 posts).........White House police, as I couldn't imagine Secret Service agents wearing them back then, given their button down image today. Are there uniformed Secret Service agents today? I'm guessing yes.

(2,926 posts)Out of curiosity, I looked up photos of Trump from his military school days and there were two photos of him in uniform with the toilet brush hat. It was hilarious!

(12,667 posts)He's said as much. This diaper pooping psychopath, who falls asleep at his own criminal trials; wanders off on electrocution and shark fantasies all the while calling himself smart, wants to rule over you and I like a medieval English royal.
And some people think this is a good thing. Supreme court, justices in a democracy, think this is a good thing.
There are some very stupid people in the world.

(22,218 posts)Even Black and Hispanic Americans. I'm dumbfounded. Maybe the Japanese were right about us, only 83 years too early. We are lazy, weak and stupid. I weep for my country. I'll fight tooth and nail to ensure it doesn't happen, but the mere fact we're having to do that makes me weep for my country. Dear fucking god. He's a self proclaimed idiotic fascist diaper boy who can barely string together two rational thoughts. He should be scorned and laughed at not elected to fucking ANYTHING! I have to fight it sometimes, but sometimes I think we're fucked. Just fucked. Maybe not now but eventually. Fucked. This current crop of Americans doesn't fucking deserve what our founders left us. Please, god, if you do exist, let me die before I see the Republic I love fall.

(596 posts)Because the snippet doesnt show the actual reason, he has surrounded himself with sycophantic people who blow sunshine up his ass on a daily basis (hourly) and he is devoid of any actual reality. This makes his shit even worse.
He tells his followers that he is going to win via landslide. They believe everything he says. So when it doesnt happen, they will be primed for a violent coup attempt again.
He doesnt have the organizational advantage this time, but he does have sycophants in congress who will try and muck up the process, but hopefully we will control both houses come Jan 3rd and be able to shut that shit down tootsweet.

(132,217 posts)We know he thought Pence would cave because he was a Republican. No point in him trying to get Harris to go along with a coup.

(926 posts)I was referring to State legislators and local interference with voting and vote counting. Also, do you think Harris would certify false slates of electors sent by states, not in concordance with vote tallies? Just curious.

is just ceremonial. If a state passes a law saying they can send any slate they want, who is VP Harris to override that?
That of course is what the magats would say. Would the constitutionality of the state law need to be challenged before she could lawfully reject such slates. Just trying to think ahead to possibilities. This shit keeps me up at night.

(12,533 posts)American citizens weren't warned about the disastrous implications of a second Trump Administration. Agent Orange and his enablers, his pandering sycophants have told us innumerable times.
They are the destroyers, clear and simple. They've come to dominate and create a dystopian nightmare in their own image.
And if you don't like it??
Say bye-bye to your own personal freedoms (what few will be left) because resistance will be met by force.
This is the Trumpian vision from the Man Who Would be King.

(2,634 posts)I do not subscribe to the notion that Trump is a drooling idiot, though I do think he's showing signs of dementia. However, he also recognizes at this point that there is no benefit for him to be anything but perfectly clear in his intentions: he plans to become emperor, doesn't give a fig about democratic processes, and he is actively subverting the electoral system in the US.
There are all too many people in the US who don't care about the fact that we live in a democracy, and indeed see that as a weakness of the system that can only be rectified by an authoritarian leader. So long as they are allowed to make money off the exploitation of others, they don't care. Why should they? Most have never seen what a true authoritarian society looks like, and those that have usually related much more to the privileged than those who aren't. This is what the GOP is counting on. They know that they cannot win on policy, which is why they are instead relying upon culture war issues and the overt appeal to a "strongman" to motivate their base to take over by force what they can't win at the ballot box.
Trump knows he's going to lose. He's just hoping to be close enough to throw the outcome into doubt, then plans on doing everything he can to carve off as much power in the aftermath as he can manage.
