CO-04: GOP Lawmaker Grilled On Why Abortion Was 'Best Choice' For His Girlfriend, But Not Others

A Colorado Republican had a hard time explaining why he said he “respected” his girlfriend’s right to abortion but voted against abortion rights as a state representative.

Richard Holtorf, who is running against U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert to represent Colorado’s 4th District in Congress, was asked about the seeming hypocrisy during a Wednesday broadcast on Denver station KUSA, and he didn’t really have a good answer.

Earlier this year, Holtorf revealed that he once provided financial support to a girlfriend amid her own abortion so she could “live her best life,” despite also sponsoring a failed 2020 measure that would have banned the procedure in the state after 22 weeks.

“I respected her rights and actually gave her money to help her through her important, critical time,” Holtorf said in January.

I'm kind of torn on whether she's sentient at all.

On the other hand, Holtorf appears to have enough of a memory of and regard for certain events to be obviously and intentionally hypocritical in thought and action, while Bobo floats about like a hyper-allergenic pollen cloud on the breeze, damaging those around her with no forethought or comprehension of her own inanity. So IMHO this Holtorf guy wins the hypocrisy contest, although his relative newness may be leading me to project anthropomorphic capabilities onto him prematurely. He may yet turn out to be merely another shapeless mass of Republican protoplasm, hopefully we don't have to find out.

that none of them has what it takes to realize they are hypocrites. Whether thatis s self-awareness or awareness thatall the people they lionize are lying like most people breathe, and that therefore most of what they believe is lies, or something else, or all of the above, I can't say.

Think. Again.

but I don't thing there are any others who appear to have a chance.

There are also some decent people in the Democratic primary, the front runners being Ike McCorkle and John Padora. Whether a Democratic ominee has a ghost of a chance in that district is debateable.

I totally do not care anymore. We are making a formation, our heads are down and we are going to eventually make you pay for what you have done to us. This "look at how good I am" bullshit does not stand anymore, it stood too long as it is. When I see men actually out in the heat and cold and up in the lands of dealing with legislators saying what we need and want them to say without their little eye rolls and chuckles THEN maybe we will listen. Too many good men that I know let us down every single time with a wink, a fist bump or a "Oh Well" shrug, you know how they are.

I have no clue the value of this man who decided HIS girlfriend got to live her best life. HE GOT TO LIVE HIS BEST LIFE.

I will bet you $295 million, which is the most expensive house in the United States, that they have done so secretly. Yet, they want to preach godly values? Godly values my backside!

N.B. The $295 million bet, I mean that figuratively, not literally. There is no way I could afford that place.

Abortion was good for his girlfriend, probably saved a sweet child from him as a father. He also voted against a bill that would have given foster children extra help after they age out of the system. Holtorf stated that they needed to get on with it and grow up. This despite data that showed these kids often were homeless within three years of leaving the system. We as a nation desperately need to help those kids. The system is plagued with uncaring people who use it only as a source of income. Then these kids with no real training or skills are out on their own sink or swim.

“Why do you seek to deny the choice that you said was best for your girlfriend’s life?” Clark began to ask.

“Let me finish explaining,” Holtorf interrupted, but Clark pressed him, asking, “Why do you seek to deny it to other women?”

Holtorf said that as “a pro-life person,” he thinks “you should try to choose life every time. But there are exceptions. And there are times when you need abortion. Abortion is a medical procedure.”

“Is one of the exceptions when Richard Holtorf’s the father?” Clark asked.
