I turned up the volume--Trump actually said this.
Donald Trump: I gave you record tax cuts, record inflation. Was knocked out.
We had inflation like you have never had it. 🤡

(5,410 posts)Donald has very kindly made us another Biden-Harris ad!"
Well, he did give us a worse COVID pandemic than we had to have---
and the recovery from THAT is what caused the inflation!
I won't argue that what he said is not indeed correct!
(Like they say, it takes at least a year before a new president can do much to influence the economy--
before that, it's all on what the LAST guy did...)

They are wrong of course.

(76,693 posts)Multiple reports, and the news networks own financial statements that he was good for the bottom line, aside from a short 2016 bump.
In fact, most of the networks have seen a drop in total viewership, and he never went away.
So, this is a clear effort to promote him & his policies, not about ratings.
It's management, not ownership, because the latter is too diverse with funds for retirement accounts holding the largest fractions of almost all these outfits.
Management wants the malleable doofus who will execute foolish conservative economic plans while ignoring the other potential outcomes.

It was unbelievable how many people I killed. People came up to me with tears in their eyes and said, "Sir, thank you for murdering my grandma and my brother with your breathtaking bungling of the pandemic. It was an honor for them to die for you."

(10,801 posts)2008: 3.84% (+0.99% from previous year) Bush's Last Year
2009: -0.36% (-4.19% from previous year) Obama's First Year
2010: 1.64% (+2.00%)
2011: 3.16% (+1.52%)
2012: 2.07% (-1.09%)
2013: 1.46% (-0.60%)
2014: 1.62% (+0.16%)
2015: 0.12% (-1.50%)
2016: 1.26% (+1.14%) Obama's Last Year
2017: 2.13% (+0.87% from previous year) Pendejo45's First Year
2018: 2.44% (+0.31%)
2019: 1.81% (-0.63%)
2020: 1.23% (+0.58%) Pendejo45's Last Year
As you can see, Inflation was running rampant the last year of Obama at 1.26%
And if you want to see bringing inflation down at a record pace, look at Obams's 1st year, where the inflation rate is -0.36% (which I believe is called Deflation), lowering it by 4.19% from the previous year.
But Pendejo45 is correct, he lowered Inflation to 1.23%, only after he increased it to 2.44% in 2018.

(46,139 posts)The Great Recession is nothing to be happy about. Fortunately, Obama led us out of it.
aggiesal
(10,801 posts)that's Deflation and that's not what you want, because that means the country is experiencing problems. But too much inflation would mean the same thing.
So a country is healthy when it is experiencing nominal inflation, like what we had during the Obama years.

(10,333 posts)Not that we need a transcription to begin with, given there is a video -- you know we have ears, right?
His comment was both ignorant and wrong.
Not sure why you would want to go to bat to defend him and, in doing so, be wrong yourself (based on your own transcription -- you transcribed the "knocked it out" part with the record inflation sentence, but then you go on to say he meant it for the tax cuts sentence?
What a tangled web...).

(10,635 posts)So he's just full of shit.
Inflation during his first few years in office was well under 3%. If he is claiming that THAT was record inflation, he's stupider than I thought. When the pandemic hit, prices started to go wild.
Those tax cuts did NOT in any way reduce inflation.
