Raw StoryWith both Donald Trump and President Joe Biden prepping for the June 27 debate the first of the 2024 presidential campaign there are growing concerns within the former president's camp that the two-minute time limit for answers combined with the candidate's mic being muted when it is not their turn will prove difficult for Trump who is known to ramble.
...snip...
One former adviser to Trump said the new restrictions may put the former president at a disadvantage.
With the Times report noting, "For his part, Mr. Trump has never consented to anything resembling traditional, rigorous debate preparation, and this election appears no exception. He has often said that he is at his best when improvising," former 2020 Trump campaign adviser Marc Lotter admitted, "He views his rallies as debate prep. If theyre literally going to cut your mic, youve got to hit your marks."
As for the Biden side, Kate Bedingfield, who helped Biden prep for the debates in 2020, remarked, "The goal is no surprises. In some ways, you have to be prepared for the unimaginable. So the aim of the process is to acclimate President Biden to the idea that some really awful things may come out of Donald Trumps mouth.

(130,526 posts)for Biden's mic to pick him up if they are just at separate lecterns (podiums are things you stand on). I hope those lecterns are at least 10' apart.

(2,094 posts)away from his spot behind the designated podium, who's going to stop him? I can easily envision him attempting to stalk and intimidate President Biden because that's his MO.

(15,578 posts)If he tries that bullshit.

(2,094 posts)such an action is incredibly appealing, the unfortunate reality is that the USSS would never do so in this case (speaking from professional experience). However, Hillary and I do endorse your sentiments!

(15,578 posts)Is to protect the sitting President not his so-called usurper. A physical threat to President Biden from Motherfucker, again in my opinion, supersedes all.
Wuddles440
(2,094 posts)merely stalking with the purpose of intimidation would not justify any use of force. There would have to be an actual threat of a violent act by Dopey Don to generate the type of response you portray. Unless they're in separate, secure rooms, I don't see any means to prevent him from engaging in such tactics if he's so inclined.

(10,299 posts)Early and often. It will be attack, attack, attack, the farther below the belt the better, because thats all he knows.
Biden has to be ready for it and be prepared not to respond to it. In this format it could actually work to Bidens advantage. All he has to do is ignore whatever Trump says and respond to the questions put to him.
And the difference will be obvious.

(13,291 posts)If a candidate become vindictive or abusive, "zap-p-p!" and he'll STFU. I'm fairly certain Joe has the willpower and intention to stay on message; Trump will be a babbling mass of Jello by the end of the debate.

It will eat at him throughout the entire debate.... he won't be able to think about anything else because he thinks he is a good golfer, but he cheats , all the time..

Now, here's how it'll work:
Each candidate will be locked in his own watertight cell, with microphone, speaker, and water intake valve.
When the two-minute "time's up!" light turns red, the water intake valve will open if the candidate is still speaking. I'm not an excessively cruel person, so I'll put it on a 10-second delay to allow the candidate to finish his thought. The intake valve will not close until the candidate stops talking.
In addition, the valve will also open if a candidate speaks out of turn, and will remain open until the candidate shuts the hell up.
Debate results:
Biden got his feet a little wet.
Twump, unfortunately, drowned after the second question.
(This is why they don't put people like me on debate commissions.)
