After five years of planning, Waffle House says it is raising the base salary of its workersto $3 per hour.
The company will set the new floor for base pay this month, gradually increasing it to a minimum of $5.25 per hour by June 2026, CEO Joe Rogers III announced in a video to employees.
The video was released in May but has come to light only recently. Rogers called the move the single largest additional investment in our workforce in the entire 68-year history of Waffle House.
The federal minimum wage in 2025 is set to hit $15 per hour. Tipped employees, though, are often not covered by that figure.

Well isn't that just fucking generous of them.

(2,076 posts)saying that there will be no immediate changes in those states. So it stands to reason that this new increase is in all the other states, where the federal minimum tipped wage is currently $2.13.

(13,522 posts)that the US still allows these slave wages and allows companies to make the public pay the wages of their workers. It disgusts me.

(11,928 posts)I always thought the assumption was that tips would make up the difference to the Fed/State minimum wage. Not that it's enough.
But I can't imagine Waffle House is a "big-tipper" type of place. So the total is likely still below minimum wage

(13,522 posts)feel the service is worth it. It puts pressure on the patrons to tip. In Canada all workers are entitled to minimum wage, including the service industry and they get their tips as well. Good service workers will not only get higher wages but higher tips as well. I have never understood the US position on this at all.

(73,959 posts)but even that was too much. they just carved out a shitty wage and kept it there.

(7,309 posts)We went to one just recently and it was horrible. The t-bone was so full of gristle and over cooked that it was inedible. The eggs, ordered over easy, had runny whites. And the hash browns were almost raw. We'll never go there again. It was my first Waffle House order and my last. But, at least the grits were good.

(55,530 posts)How much are your CEOs making? Do they live on $3 or less an hour? Hell no! They wouldn't work for $300 an hour. GOP "math" is unbelievable. I have never eaten at a Waffle House and knowing this I never will. I'm angry that in CA $15 an hour for fast food is supposedly causing fast food giants to cry big tears and tell the media that these huge hourly increases are forcing them to leave the state. Good riddance! GO AWAY FOREVER! When the average new home costs are over $1,200,000 this is so frustrating. I hope they all go bankrupt. Greedy CEOs are killing the US. I boycott and I always will. Fuck this BS!

(21,039 posts)Are Americans so infatuated with cheap (in all ways) nourishment, that does little to nourish their bodies that they will happily see their compatriots paid an
ABSOLUTE FUCKING PITTANCE
to service their needs? This points to a very sick society..
PAY YOUR FUCKING WORKERS, Waffle House.

(55,530 posts)are due to Covid? How long are they planning to use that BS excuse for their unbridled greed? They always have a new con/lie ready to dump onto American consumers at a moment's notice. Greedy bastards can never have too much money.

(11,566 posts)Because we never actually do anything about it. Oh, a few people will protest, a few will boycott, but those numbers will not matter to a national corporation. (BTW, I want to find out how many of their elite actually eat at their own restaurants.)
