It was earlier this month when right-wing operative/podcaster Steve Bannon, after suffering a series of legal defeats, was ordered to report to prison no later than July 1 to begin a four-month sentence. As Raw Story noted, some of his Capitol Hill allies, however, have an idea to keep Bannon free.
Before digging in on the plan, lets briefly summarize Bannons legal predicament, because it provides some necessary context.
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack sent Bannon a subpoena way back in September 2021. Even at the time, the seriousness was obvious: The podcaster was told that this was a legal summons not a suggestion and that failure to comply opened the door to meaningful legal consequences.
Bannon nevertheless refused to cooperate. The House then approved a resolution finding the GOP operative in contempt of Congress and referred the matter to the Justice Department, which indicted the former White House strategist. A jury later convicted Bannon his lawyers struggled to present much of a defense ultimately leading to his prison sentence.

Care about Bannon? Then donate your own money to his defense.

(32,323 posts)like the Supreme Court? Isn't it just as ridiculous for our Supreme Court to take an appeal to determine if a president is allowed to murder people?
I would not be surprised if Bannon doesn't end up in prison on July 1st.

(32,323 posts)Say what you will about Bannon but he is a top TSF advisor and Magats will do whatever it takes to keep him out of prison pre-election.

(19,375 posts)what the Constitution says, as if that is determinative or binding. It is not. The only thing that is determinative is the wants/preferences of the six RW pieces of shit on SCOTUS. They say up is down, in is out, left is right, etc all the fucking time. Unless at least two of those turds want to say up is up, in is in, left is left, etc in any given case, the text of the law or Constitution and precedent and history and logic don't matter at all.
The only thing which determines court outcomes is power, and fascistic white Christian nationalists have it.

With any luck, his next trial will give him some serious jail time.

I am wondering why all these convicted Repubs are so cowardly when it comes to prison. I looked up the prison he's going to, and it isn't anything like a hardcore prison. When you see what kinds of criminals are there, they're mostly 3 to 4 month contempt type charges, people who don't pay taxes and such. I think they make you do a job. Big deal.
I've worked in a prison. Loud, noisy, nerve wracking. If I were going to this prison, I'd just sleep it off. Wouldn't work very hard. Study in the library. Four months, then free again. Instead, these people are getting hysterical over light sentences.
This is where Donald could end up. See, no problem advising him. Visit him in his "pod." Really, it's just silly.
What is really interesting is to see if he shows up at the prison. I'd like to see him chased on the highway in some white Kia. They would probably broadcast that.
