Police request sexual assault and weapons charges for Republican lawmaker arrested Thursday

(Michigan Advance) State Rep. Neil Friske (R-Charlevoix) could face three felony charges, following his arrest early Thursday morning.

According to a records obtained through the Michigan State Police Internet Criminal History Access tool, Lansing Police have requested charges of felony sexual assault, assault and a weapons-related offense against Friske.

....(snip)....

In a statement, Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane said the Lansing Police Department responded to an incident on Thursday for a report of a male with a gun, as well as possible shots that were fired. During the course of the initial investigation, law enforcement officers learned of a possible sexual assault of an adult female, and they arrested a 62-year old male, Kornelius Friske, Dewane said, which is the lawmaker’s legal name.

....(snip)....

Rep. Phil Skaggs (D-East Grand Rapids) called for Friske to resign in a post to X on Thursday.

“While we do not yet have all the details of the incident, Neil Friske himself knows exactly what happened. I call on Rep. Friske to look to his conscience and do the right thing. If these allegations are true, Friske should resign from the Michigan House immediately,” Skaggs said. ....................(more)

He claimed he wasn't a Nazi, but he was a John Bircher.

While serving in the Legislature, Friske supported natalist policies towards the middle-class and population controls for welfare recipients, which he claimed would take the form of abstinence-only sex education.[7] He spoke of the need to "curb the growth of the drone population that weakens our society" [8] He also accused Governor William Milliken of complicity in an “international satanic conspiracy planned for this nation and the world.”[4] He favored religious right policies and opposed abortion rights, the 26th Amendment, and police reform.[5] He alleged that the U.S. public education system had been taken over by socialists.[7][5] He claimed that “72 to 80 percent” of the U.S. economy had been taken over by Communists as a result of a deliberate conspiracy by Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. He also argued that they had deliberately prolonged the Vietnam War in order to raise U.S. taxes by supplying North Vietnam through the Polish People's Republic, and that the war could be won in six months.[3]

Read something by a Russian with the last name "Lipshitz."

Had a student who insisted that his last name must be pronounced "Fox." Fuchs.

Then there was my roommate, Silverstone. Silverstein. Yup, named after a or a British racing circuit ... Or a Teflon-based brand of pots and pans. Or maybe, just maybe, he was a Jew whose name was assigned by the ruling Germans centuries ago to be humiliating and abusive. (Oh, wait, it was the third choice.)

"Friske" is Danish for "fresh." (Given the Danelaw, might actually be the original for the near doublet fresh/frisky. But don't care. Or how the word's changed its semantics, its meaning, over the centuries.)

Mocking something that's pretty much unchosen (last name) is like mocking something that's pretty much unchosen (hair genetics? eye color? height?)
