B****, youre an insurance adjustor who lives in an overpriced 3/2 ranch house in a fading suburb with a hausfrau design sense and Live Laugh Love posters, not Rip from Yellowstone. Thats why I blocked you and why your wife is banging her Pilates instructor.

Go to the above link for more laughs.
P.S. that Pilates instructor is probably female. - DMH

(82,312 posts)I have not read her book, but listen to her videos and interviews.
She quotes her book and talks about how she chose this research topic (fascism).
I love her, she is great. Very knowledgeable and understands completely
what is in store for the US.
I know, her book is not for the weak of stomach considering we may be
looking at our own imminent future.

She is matter of fact and calm.
So it is hard to get too agitated listening to her.

(82,312 posts)My Irish lines came from Ireland, over 1000 years of total repression, murder
and starvation at the hands of the oppressor (British).
Their religion and language made illegal.
Forbidden to learn to read or write or be educated.
Only menial jobs at best.
Strict, draconian laws.
The Irish came to the US for freedom at long last.
And now here we are again.
Yes it is so disturbing.
This is not what our immigrant ancestors wanted for us.

(82,312 posts)I too thought Americans had evolved to a higher level of civilization through hard work,
tears, sweat and blood. The progress came at a great price.
I thought progress was linear and we would keep evolving in an upward direction.
We have been quite wrong.
Progress is apparently fleeting, cyclical, one step forward, two steps backwards.
And the world can quickly be plunged into a deep dark age.
Or even worse.
We face an existential crisis with climate change.
And instead of dealing with it, the world is now doing a serious arm's race
including nuclear proliferation amongst unstable countries.
It does not bode well for mankind.
I do believe humans are hard wired to want freedom.
But it is going to be a constant and ongoing battle to achieve it.
And to maintain it.
Humans are also hard wired to ruthlessly accumulate power and resources.
We may not survive the battle.
Evolve Dammit
(21,816 posts)And the climate change / global warming denial is just sheer stupidity.
Irish_Dem
(82,312 posts)The politicians and oligarchs have made it clear they want nothing to do with
climate change prevention.
Perhaps they know how bad it is going to be and no amount of money will change that.
Or maybe they think they will be immune from all of it.
And let the peasants pay on the back end of the damage.
Years ago the cost and trouble to prevent climate change would have
been easier. But no one wanted to take the time or trouble to address it.
So here we are.
And we clearly see the mentality of the world autocrats.
Trump, the GOP, Putin, Xi, Kim Jong Un.
They are perfectly willing to burn down as much of the world as it takes
to get what they want. The only thing that matters is power, control and wealth.
Destruction and death mean nothing to them.
In fact they enjoy it a great deal.

(82,312 posts)Later we saw the so called houses they lived in.
My grandmother's house where she was raised is now used as a pen for pigs.
And my aunt told us about the poverty and very harsh conditions.
And then we saw my father's deep love of this country, he dedicated
his life to it. And his pride in democracy and freedom. He risked his life
so his kids could keep living free.
His kids thought it was way over the top.
We didn't realize until later why it meant so much to him to be born
and raised in America.
