(22,456 posts)I remember when I was very young, my dad was wondering about a newspaper article that told of a murderer who was trying to take an insanity plea. My dad couldn't understand how anyone who was capable of murdering someone else could be considered anything other than insane.

(22,590 posts)Pure evil, stupidity, and dementia.
At one time, it was just the first two. Now the third one is taking over more and more. The other things are still there, but they're no longer completely running the show.
One thing dementia does is strip away the social graces that can be used to conceal the evil. Trump's already losing whatever capacity he once had to fake being a decent human. Eventually, he won't know where he is or who he's talking to, and he won't even be able to pretend. Wonder who'll line up to kiss his ring then?
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)ShazzieB
(22,590 posts)It doesn't mean he's not still evil. Losing the ability to consciously control what comes out of his mouth is a separate thing. The evil is still in there
His brain is turning into mush as we speak. Recognizing that has nothing to do with letting him off the hook, as you put it.
This is a very evil man who also happens to have a diseased brain. That's just the fact of the matter.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)Edit to add:
We all know about his fetish for 1970s and 80s New York mob bosses, and I suspect he thinks the dementia act that vincent gigante pulled to escape federal proscution was brilliant.

(32,988 posts)diagnosed her with dementia. Informed consent? She denies that she has dementia. What do you mean by informed consent?

(22,456 posts)Maybe you shouldn't pay so much attention to internet medical advice.

(32,988 posts)not to internet advice. In fact, I did just the opposite! You have no business attacking me and not answering for your own misinformation.

(22,456 posts)...my response about the internet medical advice was meant for them.
I was also a longterm sole caregiver for a parent through their various stages of dementia, and I did not mean to undermine your efforts with that, I know firsthand how difficult that can be.

(22,590 posts)That's why thousands of qualified medical and mental health professionals have signed a petition recommending that a full diagnostic workup be performed on him by a qualified expert or experts. These are people who know the signs that indicate such a workup is needed, and they say TSF is showing those signs. These people are in a position to know what they are talking about, and I think their opinions should carry some weight.
But you would know all of that and more if you'd looked at any of the links I posted.
You seem resistant to the idea that he has dementia, and you are welcome to your opinion. I just don't happen to share it, and there are thousands of highly qualified people who don't share it, either. I'm not going to try to change your mind, beyond providing the information I've already offered, and I'm really, really not interested in arguing about who's right. Have a nice night.

(22,590 posts)He never really did, having been raised and living his entire life in such a rarefied atmosphere of extreme privilege. Thanks to the dementia, he can't even pretend anymore. He just stands there at his rallies and rants about things that exist only in his own head, like batteries that make boats sink, toilets that have to be flushed 15 times, and a supposedly skyrocketing violent crime rate in a country where violent crime is actually going down.
I really wonder how much longer Republicans can keep pretending not to notice how little grip on reality he has left.
