July 4 is all about? I have seen what purport to be responses, but, are they actually saying/implying that? What am I missing?

(25,308 posts)The KKK expropriated the cross as a symbol of hate.
Nazis expropriated the swastika from early Buddhism, turning it backwards.
KKKristians expropriate Jesus, turning his teachings into hate.
RW'ers expropriate the constitution, turning it towards their narrow-minded ends.
Trunk expropriated the DOJ, weaponizing it (Bill Barr, you can't hide from that). (and every accusation is a confession)
And they expropriate the flag and holidays as symbols of division rather than inclusion.
It's all cult logic, to take away symbols from others and turn them into weapons.

I drove all the way through the middle of Wisconsin this weekend, and rather to my surprise I saw only a few Trump signs, but those I did see were ridiculous. They're huge, posted on fences along a road and surrounded by many, many flags, maybe either defiantly or defensively (Look at how patriotic I am and I love Trump!) I saw one sign that said "Are you fed up yet? Vote Republican!" I wished I could have answered, "Fed up with what? All time high stock market, lowest unemployment in decades, inflation down, crime down?" But then I saw another sign that said, "Vote for Democrats, we vote for you." So maybe there's some hope for Wisconsin.

(96,882 posts)Go back to Memorial Day and look at the posts by people here who say they wont put out the flag because of some policy or historical aspect they dont like. If we reject national pride in the aggregate, we open the door to letting Republicans seize it.
