By my count, there are only sixty member of the U.S. House of Representatives who are members of the Tea Party Caucus. That includes four or five members (like Joe Walsh) who are lame ducks. So Boehner is essentially allowing a quarter of his members (several of whom are utterly powerless at this point) to dictate the agenda.
You call that leadership? The guy can't bring the other 75% of his caucus on board? Or at least two-thirds of the other 75%?
Whipped. Whipped I tells ya.

(6,499 posts)The others may not be in the caucus, but they're held in thrall with them in the end. Because if they don't act the right way, they'll get primaried hard, have to make wild changes or more extreme motions to try and stay ahead in the primaries, and then deal with the consequences later. They're not formally bound, but it's fully there.

(31,706 posts)...and doing a poor job of it. He'll have a smaller caucus next year which means less leverage. Even more important, the more Progressive Senate will make it harder for turtleman to obstruct in the Senate and make it easier for legislation to pass. Boner will have to wheel and deal or be seen as the one holding things up. So he thinks he's in stronger position now to get a deal done to his liking than he will after January 1st. Surely the President and Democratic leaders know the numbers and can see this bullshit for what it is.
What'll be interesting is to see if Boner can reign in the teabaggers or if he'll have to patch together coalitions with Democrats to get things moved. The pressure will be on him to keep the ball rolling...especially when it's his big money benefactors who lose more and more leverage each day a deal isn't done. Those Country clubbers are anxious to get a deal that will protect as much of their tax shelters as possible...while the teabaggers won't budge on raising taxes or any types of revenues. Game on...and Boner is stuck in the middle...

(19,288 posts)Are pawns, of the Kock brothers who paid to buss disruptors to the town hall meetings in the country and disrupt it by shouting and yelling out talking points of the rich.
That is what the 1% is taxed enough already congressmen have done in congress. Go in and obstruct business, disrupt the process, and block all Obama's appointees.
Cuss word, cuss word, cuss word.

(14,524 posts)Nothing would please me more than the Teabaggers proving this nonsense for the fucking scam it is.
There is no "cliff."
End of tax cuts for the Robber Barons? Sounds WONDERFUL to me.
Cuts to the MIC? Sounds even better.
End the defunding of SS? Hell yes.
Jump.
