(3,921 posts)they are the best predictive tool we have for the reason that those betting on the election (especially those betting alot on it) have the incentive to investigate everything (not just polls, but all info, both hard facts and rumor, both publicly known and not) that could affect the outcome, and make a determination whether or not any particular piece of info is relevant. It's the wisdom of markets.

(2,438 posts)I must admit I'm taking it in as a gestalt more than listening to it word by word. Still, they could have taken the questions as rhetorical and let Trump respond if he wished on his next turn.
Ms. Toad
(38,648 posts)You could hear Biden's comments (mostly taunts) to Trump about Biden's handicap, whether Trump would agree to carry his own bag, etc., and see Trump's mouth move, but not hear Trump's responses.
Given the circumstances, I would have either muted both, or unmuted Trump.

(6,287 posts)would really work is if both candidates were put in soundproof booths, and asked the exact same questions. Simple questions (like Lawrence was suggesting earlier on MSNBC) like: Explain what a tariff and what impact it would have on the American people. No rebuttals from the other side, just fact checking by the mods.

(1,582 posts)If Biden, during his debate stage time, started OBVIOUSLY lying, like:
It's raining in the studio. Everyone should open your umbrellas.
The guy across from me is the skinniest guy I ever saw - he can't be more than 98 lbs drippin' wet.
Daylight savings time starts tomorrow - remember to adjust your clocks.
adding some more obvious lies and then saying:
Do you believe what I've just been saying? Thpse were OBVIOUS lies.
And if you can spot my obvious lies, you can spot my opponent's obvious lies.
And then Biden should start reciting Trump's lies one by one and refuting each of them .
Biden doing the fact checking in real time.
Listen folks, if you want to hear the truth for a change, vote for me.
