Conservatives, including a potential Trump VP pick, take aim at no-fault divorce

In wake of the reversal of Roe v. Wade in 2022, Republicans have been looking to roll back other protections like contraception access, in-vitro fertilization and now no-fault divorce.

A recent article from The Guardian took inventory on conservative politicians and commentators discussing the elimination of no-fault divorce laws, which have been present in all 50 states for decades. In 17 states, the only option for divorce is no-fault, which allows for either party to file without needing to prove wrongdoing by their spouse, like adultery, physical abuse or abandonment.

In 2021, now-U.S. Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) received backlash for suggesting that women in violent and abusive relationships should be forced to stay with their spouses.

“This is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace,” Vance said in audio originally published by Vice News. “Which was the idea that like, ‘Well, okay, these marriages were fundamentally, you know, they were maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy, and so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that’s going to make people happier in the long term.’”

“Other conservative voices like Steven Crowder, Matt Walsh and Tim Pool have taken aim at the issue as well, with the latter asserting that “No-Fault Divorce has DESTROYED Men’s Confidence in Marriage.”

What an idiotic statement. No … it has destroyed Men’s Power Over The Woman in Marriage. And conservative men like having the upper hand.
