But could we have succeeded in WWII with today's press? Like, could we have actually staved off the Axis powers with a media that is willing to sell out America? Because I believe what happened Thursday night was coordinated, pre-planned, and pre-written.
I saw the stupid debate, I thought, "Well, Joe is tired tonight, he might have a sore throat, whatevs." Went to bed. Thought, "A draw, nothing is going to change from a blizzard of lies and a pile of stats."
Woke up to flippin' Debatemageddon, puzzled at the overreaction. Is it just me? Am I underreacting? Joe was great in N.C. and what really worries me is him telling Jill, "don't know what happened Jill, wasn't feeling well." I have questions about the mics, the lighting, the intent. I don't go for conspiracy, I just don't believe what I'm being told.

but that was no draw.

(351 posts)about that. What are we giving punches landed scores based on? Smooth Gish Gallop or substance? I think the only solid punch was the morals of an alley cat line. It was delivered authentically and it was timed well.

(28,706 posts)Theres no spinning it. It was hands down the worst performance by any candidate in a televised presidential debate in history.
This isnt a formal debate where a qualified judge evaluates arguments won and points dropped. Where style might influence speaker points but not the win/loss of the round.
Rather than achieving the goal of alleviating the candidates greatest perceived weakness
it cemented that weakness.
Does that mean that we lose? Maybe not. It might not even hurt too badly in the polls
but theres no spinning this one as a tie. Does it mean that Trump did well in some objective sense? Nope - not that either. But its what it is.

(28,706 posts)CBS just released a poll. Just under 80% say that they watched the debate live of have seen highlights and media coverage of it. Only 21% say that they haven't seen much about it.

(12,669 posts)told the story, How about we have no moderators? Have someone ask the questions off camera and fact check on a stream below the shot? CNN should be ashamed, they let America down big time. IMO.

(41,634 posts)I don't think he answered even one question on Thursday night. Each 2 minute segment he was given (regardless of the questions asked) he launched a fresh tirade of lies and angry accusations at Biden. Did the moderators ever once stop him and say "Will the candidate please answer the question?"
The moderators were useless. It didn't matter that Biden did a good job following the format, because Chump showed us that he never intended to do so.

I'm waiting to see if he still has dementia or has it miraculously disappeared?

(351 posts)my point. My grandpa served in WWII, I respect those brave people. My point is if the media had been willing to sell out America, would FDR had been able to stay in power in 1944, and develop a cohesive strategy to finish it? Would we have taken down Germany by 1944 with constant equivocation and undermining if the soldiers had been, underfunded, or undersupplied, like Republicans would gladly do now to Ukraine?
Imagine these headlines:
"Sources: Eisenhower, Roosevelt Bicker Over French Strategy."
Or,
"Unnamed Democrats Question Strategy, Cost of War in Europe."
It took a full united team effort to win that thing, but there were few elements working against it.

(6,501 posts)Even after Pearl Harbor, there were many who opposed FDR. While sentiment did shift strongly then, it was still far from the version of history most of us grew up being taught.
