You were probably responsible for ousting Al Franken too. WTF are you thinking?! Do not send this man into the history books as a one termer for absolute nonsense. Shame on Democrats who are calling for this. SHAME!
The only person who should be making this part of the political calculus is Joe himself. And as far as that goes, I trust Joe.
I originally supported Warren in the primaries. But after seeing what Joe has accomplished, I know he was the right person for the job.
Please stop the gnashing of teeth and fucking get busy working to elect Democrats. Do you really want Trumpers to control all three branches of our govt. Because that is what will be accomplished by saying Biden should end his campaign.
I cant fucking believe I have to say this.

(2,248 posts)Just saying, "conversations should happen..." ain't enough for me, sorry. This is a gigantic step - an unprecedented move (remember what happened when McGovern replaced Eagleton - this would be 1000x times more newsworthy). So, what's your next step dealing with the media?
Because I promise you the media and Republicans especially aren't going to just shrug and say, "okay...cool." and move on.
Their next question is going to be: Is Biden fit to be president?
How can any Democrat who supports moving on from Biden answer that question where it doesn't become a massive political shit-show for the party anyway?
If you're openly conceding Biden might need to be replaced, you are also conceding that he might not have what it takes to remain president RIGHT NOW. I don't care if you don't think that is your intention. That is the narrative you will be fueling. And I have yet to hear a reasonable answer on how to push back against such a narrative because, honestly, there isn't one
Joe Biden is the nominee. Joe Biden will win in November. Joe Biden has been a fantastic president. One fucking debate doesn't change that.

Nor asking stupid questions..... but supporting our President Joe Biden!
Really, glad to see you here!
As for 'is Biden fit to be President, let alone a candidate', I've already seen at least one source raising that question...

(who also has plenty of 'cognitive issues' which the MSM and pundits are mostly ignoring...)

Sorry, but those who think Biden should be replaced don't necessarily believe he's unfit for the job. The real concern is that swing voters will see it that way.

(2,248 posts)You just proved my point.
Nothing in your reply adequately answers the question.
So, if you don't think he's unfit for the job, then why should he drop out?
And if you don't think the media and Republicans will jump on that question next, then you're not paying attention.
Goodheart
(5,760 posts)It's more a matter of his fitness as a candidate, not of his fitness for the job.
Self Esteem
(2,248 posts)How can you claim he doesn't have the fitness to be candidate and yet have the fitness to be the president of maybe the most powerful nation on earth?
Are you really not getting that?
There is no answer that would pacify concerns if you're openly admitting Biden doesn't have the fitness (what fitness: mental, physical?) to run a campaign but yet you feel comfortable with him still running the country.
Goodheart
(5,760 posts)"How can you claim he doesn't have the fitness to be candidate and yet have the fitness to be the president of maybe the most powerful nation on earth?"
Those are separate things. I know many, many people who are fit to be president but would make unelectable candidates.
Self Esteem
(2,248 posts)Did you believe he was unelectable on Wednesday, June 26?
I'm sorry. But this is just an awful answer and proves my point. There is no adequate answer that can be given by the party that will placate the surge in questions about whether Biden is mentally fit enough to be president right now.
These are questions EVERY elected Democrat, and the eventual nominee if Biden isn't the guy, will be asked. There is no answer they can give that will be adequate enough since they all universally were supporting Biden on Wednesday, June 26.

In a sane world, Biden would have been up 15 points before the debate. But thats not our reality.
My guess is that trump and GOPers want Biden on ticket now.

(5,370 posts)Republican commentator types have been bloviating forever that Biden should drop out, will drop out. That's what's always mystified me. Shouldn't they be embracing him? If he's the demented old fool they say he is?
Remember the WSJ hit story on Joe not long ago, all sorts of Republicans talking smack. No Dems named. This has been going on for a while, people.

But hey, if you want Biden replaced, then go right ahead and call the campaign.
btw, if the assessment of Joe is he's fit to serve, will you accept it?

(12,412 posts)Not sure what Sanders has to do with this, other than Democrats voting against -- or not voting for Clinton because their guy lost in the primaries -- is why we got trump.

(5,370 posts)Different standards for different people. I don't think anybody would be calling for Sanders to drop out because of his age.
History is full of situations where someone was thought to be toast, and yet they weren't. I also think people who weren't keen on Biden in the first place are seizing their moment. At last, we can get rid of him.

(5,370 posts)Nothing's going to change your mind. I'll agree to disagree.
DU is full of people who thought Joe shouldn't run, and they've made their views clear for months. This is their moment.
Although, you do know Bernie ran for president, right? There were those who preferred him over Joe. I seriously doubt any of them would be saying now he's too old, had he won, and were he the incumbent now. And, I think more than a few onlookers would say the same thing. That's what I meant by different standards.

If the honest answer is to formally declare him as Democratic candidate the next day and request every Democrat to show up at their local precinct to show the world 80+ million support him Im in.
But an honest assessment is necessary if you want to beat trump.
shrike3
(5,370 posts)I think some DUers have a preconceived notion of what that answer should be and will dismiss any "assessment" that doesn't go along with that preconceived notion. IOW, they want that assessment to say Joe is not competent to be president and should step aside. Any "assessment" that says otherwise will be deemed dishonest.
Silent Type
(12,412 posts)But if they think it wasn't just a one time thing, then I'd be disappointed if they go all rah rah, we can win this.
I want to beat trump and GOPers and not see Democrats obliterated up and down ballot. I love Biden, but another Thursday will tank us, assuming we are not already going to lose. His family, advisers, doctors, know whether it's likely to happen again.

(5,370 posts)Given all the concerns you've plainly stated.
Who does the assessment by the way? Doctors? Outsiders? His own people? His campaign staff? Who?

(35,075 posts)Although there might be minor overlap. The Al Franken booters were from a goody two shoes, keep the high road at all costs, come to gunfights with a butter knife types.
The people calling for Joe to step down are in some sense the opposite -- they're not willing to risk the election, even if it means kicking Joe under the bus.
I'm not calling for him to step down but I wouldn't mind if he did. I feel frustrated and trapped in a car stuck on train tracks with a train approaching. And of course, everyone else in the car is saying to calm down and relax.
