Granting pardons is a Constitutional responsibility of the presidency, and immunity in those matters is now absolute.

But attempting to do it is not a crime. And if it was, it would simply give the President immunity from prosecution for trying to self pardon, not make the self pardon legal.

Immunity doesn't give you ultimate and unchecked power by making every action/decision you take legally binding. It means you can't be prosecuted for attempting it.

This is how he always operates. Layers between him and the crime.

Immunity
Self pardon
Others committing the actual crime
Buying off and threatening the the witnesses
