since then, after watching Biden debate djt in 2020; after seeing Biden speak at State of the Union address; after hearing Biden's staunch defense of abortion rights, gun control legislation and human rights....
...he did watch the 6.27.24 debate, and although he was unhappy that Biden was so hoarse and didn't sound as assertive as he often does, the person concluded that Djt just kept lying, avoided answering questions, made hateful slurs and insulted Biden. .
He added that Biden, regardless of his condition (and likely use of otc med to relieve symptoms) did answer questions, did cite his accomplishments, did deny as many of djt's lies as he had time for.
That person now says that he would absolutely vote for Biden vs. djt in 2024 regardless of how he appeared during the 1.5 hour tv unreality show.
There must be many more people like him who've changed and grown to appreciate and admire Biden for his successful presidency. It's absurd to now try to convince them to give up on voting for Biden just because of an awkward hour!

(9,959 posts)The pundits have even gotten the "big donors" nervous, and acting like there MIGHT be a good idea in there to "replace Joe".
Replacing Joe with anybody right now is an absolutely sure trump win. The masses of voters are not as quick to come around to the idea as the "elites of the party" think.

(53,550 posts)If he "would absolutely vote for Biden vs. DJT", surely there must be others who are waking up from their nightmare. I think Trump has been out there for too long and the Trump effect is wearing off for many.
Like many celebrities, he's been overexposed and people are becoming immune to whatever the hell it is that he's got. Charisma?

(258,833 posts)About anyone but himself. I couldn't wait for the 2016 election to be over so we'd never have to see or hear from him again.

(1,313 posts)He had a Trump/Pence sticker on his truck during the 2016 election cycle. A few years later I noticed it had been removed. We had never talked politics before, then one day he just started opening up about is political views. He said he came to the realization that 45 was nothing but a liar and a con man. Unfortunately, he also said he's never voted. I worked the elections for 20 years so I was dismayed by his uninvolvement and tried to get him to come around. He mentioned switching from CNN and Fox to MSNBC so maybe I can yet convince him before 11/5 that this election is about saving our very democracy and we need his vote for Biden. But regardless, conversion to the left is possible and I don't think 45 is winning over any voters outside his cult.

(7,059 posts)Somewhere along the line, he turned into a hate-radio loving, typical Limbaugh conservative. We're staying on his land one autumn weekend during the middle of trump's administration. We've avoided discussing politics since his turn to the dark side, but that weekend, out of the blue, he simply announced that 'trump is an ass in it for himself and no one else.'
He's begrudgingly voting against trump by voting for Biden this go around, realizing that just sitting the election out would be the next best thing to voting for trump. He sent me an email within minutes after the debate ended and one sentence from it read, "Makes no diff, my party went to hell, someone took the mask off. I'll be a republican until I shuffle off, but I'll be voting for Democrats until my guys get their heads out of their ass."
This is all in a small, practically one-stoplight town in Texas. In 2016, driving down Main seemed one step away from being out of a Leni Riefenstahl film clip, but in this past year, has seen almost all aggressive political signs and stickers curiously absent. Fingers crossed it's an indicator.

(8,009 posts)I'm talking past administrations from Ray Gun right up to Trump over 60 I believe while we have produced only one or two.
Besides their obvious cheating and the violation of all norms and tradition that have governed behavior in public service for a couple centuries it's just so obviously who they are out to serve and it isn't the average voter.
