should go to someone who is 100% percent mentally capable (if not physically) of conducting all aspects of the role. Democrats in 2008 insisted that John McCain was too old/had melanoma--that wasn't ageism then, was it? That was politics--and he was in his mid 70's. It used to be that you could be too old for certain jobs. It still is that way.

I will never forget the 1996 race. Dole's age (73) came up almost daily.

6. Yep. It used to be fair in politics to suggest you could be too old and not vigorous enough for the job.

and exchanges about your own administration with clarity, then you need to pass the baton. I know Biden can read, I know he can be prepped and coached, but can he do better in the next debate? Because that is in September when it really will be too late.

8. Gut instinct isn't a very standardized measure.

I'd also hazard that every individual on the planet has had unclear moments, often at work in their fields of expertise. And by the standard as you set it, each one should step down (unless your standard as written was unclear or incomplete, but boy that would be an awkward and ironic thing)

Does this person answer questions appropriately and make sense? Muddling a couple words or phrases here and there isn't a big deal if everyone knows what you mean. Can you appropriately convey the message you intend to convey? I don't think I'm asking for much, here. We used to be the party of "Who can answer the 3 am call?"

People age differently. Many 81-year-olds are already dead.

Biden has never been a gifted orator - is he less capable of public speaking than 4 years ago? He mumbled then, too. I can't really judge how it's changed because I thought it was bad in 2020. Yes I know he has a stutter.

Physically, his gait seems stiffer. His plastic surgery is not aging particularly well.

But Biden appears to be perfectly capable of making solid executive decisions. He's showing that every day - like the change in policy at the border.
