Every night he is out there protecting my chickens, duck and rabbits. He stays up all night to do this and sleeps some in the day. We go on hikes around the property sometimes and we see all kinds of footprints. Of course he explores all of these but the ones of the coyotes, wolves and bears he spends extra time on. He doesn't run as fast as he could and sleeps more during the day than he used to but he does his job night after night and he knows all of their tricks. I could get a new dog but then it would take time to train them and lately I've seen way more tracks from the bears and wolves and coyotes. Almost 10 times more and they are getting closer to the house than they have ever been. It is time for me to start thinking about getting a new dog so they can be trained by the old one but to replace him now would be insane. Me and my buddy talk about how old the dog is getting but we know that he has quite a few fights left in him and he fights like none I have ever seen. And the tracks are still getting closer. That old dog is my best hope. But maybe I'll have him start training a new one.

(14,038 posts), And I love my old dogs, but I don't ask them to do things I know they're not capable of doing.

(14,038 posts)They didn't hear me, the AC was on as well as a fan to keep them cool, I managed to get a photo of them before they knew I was home, it was beautiful.
They will be 14 this summer, brother and sister goldens, they're still doing their job, making us happy.
