Beryl at 5.00am as she approaches the Yard aka Jamaica

Will be a rough 12 or hours but it’s not going to be a direct hit. Will be close.
Word is Cat 3 by then. No rain yet.

Historical fact - Jamaica has never had a direct hit from a Cat4

Jul 2024

notably the right front quadrant, as the surge out of the SSE onto the southern coast, will be significant.

(longwave IR view)

At least it has weakened "down to" 145 mph (vs yesterday's 165 mph CAT 5 designation).

The Norman Manley International Airport will be affected big time. I expect the Palisadoes strip to be completely effed up in the next 12 hours. All those protective boulders will be in the road.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palisadoes

Raining now. No wind yet.

I’m in a safe space. The same is not true for many of our peeps.

Trees flying doing damage.
Meanwhile the storm surge has moved the boulders on the Palisadoes strip so as predicted there is no access to NMIA and Port Royal.
Will post video when I find it. Heavy rain now - wind picking up.

The wind has arrived.
More later.

Stay strong!

I've been watching the satellite. Looks like the eye grazed the southernmost tip. Couldn't tell whether the eye would move further north a few frames ago, but now it looks like the eye is gonna skirt the coast.

You can select parts of the world where there is a geostationary satellite and zoom in. Can also select the filters.

Here is the current "true color" image of it -

It seems to have lost its "eye" under a lot of clouds/convection. Don't know if it has done an eyewall replacement yet but that is partly why it is weakened along with still booking along at 20 mph (flying itself apart)!!

We're starting hurricane season with a bang this year. I'm concerned about what the rest of the season is going to be like, with the water temperature heating up even more. Hope Jamaica doesn't get a direct hit! I wish all of us could get through the season without a lot of damage, but I'm afraid that isn't likely.

Jul 2024

There is steady rain but no serious wind in my neck of the woods

Heard that the worst of it will be between 2.00 and 8.00 - we shall see.
There is flooding in parts of St Thomas.

Remember now - you cannot trust the media. They hype everything.

This is the storm and the worst of it remains south of the island.
There is no visible eye at this time. We expect the Blue Mountains to further weaken Beryl.

Will check in again at 3.00pm if we still have service. Thanks for all the nice thoughts. Love yah DUers

Three more things - the people I trust say maximum 110mph on the south coast and 90 on the north coast.

And lock Smelvis the fuck up and don’t forget to celebrate the disbarment of noun/verb/9/11. 😀
