Just felt the need to counter all of the Joe needs to step down threads.
No one in the history of our nation has gotten more votes for president than Joe Biden.
Also, at this stage of the game it's common sense for me, I can't see the logistics for a different candidate.
So far I have only seen one "actual" reason for Joe to step down, a bad debate performance, WTF, that's not enough for me.
I'm Ridin' With Biden.

(71,394 posts)... I think the media almost played us into a disaster. We voters decide who our President is, not the hair on fire media.

(12,017 posts)One of my local 10:00 pm news programs last night went on and on about Biden and those calling for him to step aside. It lasted about 5 minutes out of their 30 minute newscast. They are definitely trying to manipulate the election in favor of tRump. It's disgusting.

(34,747 posts)It boggles my mind that Joe's being asked to step down over a bad debate performance, while his opponent is getting a pass for things INFINITELY WORSE THAN THAT.

(31,620 posts)If Joe Biden had;
Told people to drink bleach, some did.
Wanted to detonate a nuclear device into a hurricane.
Asked a doctor if it was possible to shine an ultraviolet light into peoples' bodies.
Had told the battery-powered boat/shark story.
Told the country not to worry about the Coronavirus, it will go away on its own.
Take horse paste to cure Covid.
Tell me again which candidate has mental issues?

(2,442 posts)I am actually appalled by the lack of support here for a man who has done an absolutely stellar job as President. We need unity or we'll perish.
Ridin' with Biden.

(616 posts)Anyone who hasn't noticed a profound slowdown in Joe in the last year is not being honest with themselves. He is the best president of my lifetime, but I hope he steps aside IF his decline is real. Either way, I'll vote for whoever is at the top of the Democratic ticket.

(22,333 posts)In 1968, LBJ decided not to run for reelection. He knew that if he stayed in, he was probably going to lose because of the escalation of the Vietnam War.
Bobby Kennedy was well on his way to winning the nomination that summer, but he was tragically assasssinated right after winning the California primary.
At the Convention, Johnson's VP, Humphrey, was picked to head the ticket. The Party was already split into 2 factions over the Vietnam War, and nominating Humphrey made things even worse. He was tainted in the eyes of antiwar Dems due to having been part of the Johnson administration, and Dems who strongly opposed the war were not enthused about voting for him. That's why we lost.
If Bobby Kennedy had lived, he would probably been nominated, and he would have had much broader support than Humphrey did. There's a good chance he would have won.

(22,333 posts)But I hope all this talk of him taking himself out of the race dies down soon. It's unnerving.

(19,445 posts)dumping our candidate at this time is political suicide.

(3,564 posts)because Eagleton had once been hospitalized for treatment of depression in the 1960's.
Doing that had a significant negative impact on McGovern's campaign too. Nixon won.
There is a precedent showing that dumping a candidate is indeed detrimental.

(19,445 posts)dump a candidate, they'd coalesce behind him as they did that orange man after every freaking criminal thing he did, they stood behind him in lockstep.
We need to do the same about the actually GOOD man we have as our President.
I wasn't all in on Biden in 2020, he wasn't even my 5th choice, but since then, he's been better than I could ever have imagined.
Trump has a litany of outrageous statements, threats and has publicly spouted sentences of complete gibberish, and the GOP nor the media have barley batted an eyelash over it. Most of it while he was POTUS.
This obsession with Biden's screw up during that faux debate is beyond absurd.

(17,905 posts)The most worrisome thing about all this "Biden isn't mentally fit" hysteria will be the intense scrutiny his every public appearance, speech and interview will receive for the next five months. The slightest gaffe or verbal misstep will send the step-down crowd into a frenzy. Who can withstand that?
