Because every time the media has challenged Trump, the response from Republicans has been FUCK YOU, WE DON'T CARE.
Found liable for defaming the woman he raped?
Found guilty of 34 felonies?
Impeached once?
Impeached twice?
January 6?
Stealing top secret documents?
And on and on and on...
Republicans, led by Trump, have responded to each and every one of these political crises by saying FUCK YOU to the media. And it has worked -- at least in the sense that the media has backed off.
The fact is, the press are bullies. They will get in your face and make your life miserable. But if you punch them in the face, they'll back off. Republicans have learned this. Democrats haven't.
What Biden and Harris are trying to do right now is punch back against the media bullies. If they can punch hard enough, the media will back off and move on. Hell, the media might even start treating them with a bit more respect.
That will require all of us -- party leaders and grassroots together -- to have Joe and Kamala's backs. Just like the Republicans do it. Unfortunately many Democrats right now seem to be acting like if we give the media our lunch money, maybe they won't bully us tomorrow. Good luck with that.
The debate was bad. We're down in the polls. So what? Stand up and fight twice as hard and let's see how this race looks after a successful, united convention. The next narrative after "disaster for Biden" should be "Biden comes back." Let's make it happen.

Some Democrats are weak. They let the media run with this and added fuel to the fire by being so meek.
Republicans have no honor. Theyd spit in the face of the press, threaten them and get what they want.
Heres the proof. Its happening right now.
People dont want Biden out because of one bad debate, they want him out because the press is running rampant with the mission and Democrats will of course give in.
Careful though, push Biden out and there will be plenty of pissed off voters who will protest and not vote at all.

(9,765 posts)I emailed the WH and told Joe to keep fighting and go on the offensive. I called Schumer AND Jeffries offices and told them I support Joe and they needed to get their Democrats in line and start fighting, go on offense and quit being whiners. The Repukes don't back down, don't admit fault, don't apologize. We need to be tougher, more aggressive and on offense. I posted this in a different thread, but I'm repeating it here for emphasis.
AND. Our Democrats need to hear from us that we are with Joe. Call, email. Please. This is the time to make ourselves heard.
If someone would start a trend to donate $20.24 to Joe's campaign I would totally join in. Or maybe it should be $81.00, lol?

just as corporations are.
Both institutions have short term vision looking max at the next quarterly report which also carries over to climate change recognition.
The larger the corporate media conglomerate becomes the less connected it is to the reality and plight of actual people, but they have mastered marketing and human psychology for selling and influencing purposes.
Republicans are all in on authoritarianism and subservience to oligarchy as is the overwhelming majority of the corporate media's ownership.
That's what made the GOP so vulnerable to becoming an actual cult.
*rump is just saying out loud what the most disconnected corporate media owners believe in.

(35,337 posts)by endorsing a ban on gender-affirming surgery for minors. Just like abortion, that decision belongs in the hands of trans individuals (and their families as long as they are unemancipated minors) and their doctors.
In endorsing such a ban, Biden handed his lunch money to the same bullies who have been attacking the LGBTQ community for decades.
It is harder to give unqualified support to someone who views the support of the LGBTQ community an appropriate sacrifice in the search for votes. I knocked on doors for Kerry in 2004 - something that is not in my nature, because the stakes were so high. While doing so I hid my opposition to Issue 1 (Ohio's marriage discrimination amendment) because I knew that some Kerry supporters opposed my marriage. I campaigned separately, creating a website and media tools to oppose Issue 1 - since everyone knew it was a losing cause no one even bothered to mount an opposition. Then I showed up here the day after the election and got blasted for being too vocal about wanting my special pony, when the reality was that the issue was placed on the ballot to drive conservatives to the polls, who would vote for Bush while they were there.
I tolerated Obama's wishy-washy legal recognition but not marriage stance, but was sick enough at his invitation to a raging anti-gay pastor to give the prayer at his inauguration that I could not even bear to watch it.
The same kind of campaign is going on now, directed primarily at trans individuals, and Biden just gave comfort to the enemy.
I know Biden will ultimately get my lunch money - but right now I'm just not feeling like cheerleading being used as political fodder, once again.

(35,337 posts)I also anticipate that regulatory actions related to benefit associated with same gender marriage will be declared outside of the relevant agency's purview, and reversed.
But that does not mean Biden has to endorse it - any more than he endorsed the decision on immunity. Did you see his press conference endorsing limited immunity for Trump? Neither did I, in fact the exact opposite. He disagreed with the court decision - and gave a news conference to that effect. Just because there was a negative lower court ruling does not mean he had to issue a statement endorsing any part of it. In fact, I expected him to do the exact opposite - or, at a bare minimum, remain silent.
Speaking out in favor of even a part of the ruling is spitting in the face of long-time allies. I'm tired of wiping the spittle off my face.

(2,093 posts)of that stuff matters until we start promoting Biden administration successes and stop focusing on the jackass running against him. We need moderate voters, and they are mostly uninterested in and weary of the soap opera approach. We may not see it that way, but they do. Those people want to know about fiscal and immigration policy, not how many times Trump call Epstein or how many times the house voted to impeach him. None of this has worked out for us so far, and it's not going to change in the next 4 months either.

I am no republican. I do not blindly support anyone.
I support the Biden presidency. Its been one of the better ones. I was looking forward to voting for him and watching him trounce Trump. I also acknowledge that the debate was a horrific experience to watch, and left me with a lot of questions. I didnt watch the punditry before or after, I watched the debate. Trump was lying and unsuited for any office. Bidens presidency speaks for itself, but Biden on the stage spoke a very different story. If Biden were to decide his remaining years would be better spent focusing on his family, and that a younger candidate with more energy might be a better choice to stuff trump into the footnotes of history books, I would 100% support that.
EarlG
(22,453 posts)He's announced he's going to stay in the race and fight. So now what? Are you in or out?
It's funny. I've been watching people for years on this board asking why we can't be more like Republicans. Republicans will do anything to win -- why can't we? My answer has always been the same as what you're driving at with the Ukraine analogy. If we do the same things that Republicans do -- if we lie, and cheat, and steal our way into power -- then we're no better than they are. And if we're the same as them, what's the point of any of this?
It means we have to spend half the time fighting with one hand tied behind our backs. But that's the price we pay for choosing the side of truth, decency, and the rule of law. We have to stand up for ideals by demonstrating them ourselves, otherwise we're just hypocrites.
None of that is what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about standing up for ourselves and not letting the media kick us around or bully us into submission. I'm talking about fighting for our values, by fighting for our nominee, who represents what we stand for -- truth, decency, and the rule of law. I'm talking about fighting against their nominee, who represents lying, cheating, and stealing.
We know the difference between right and wrong, and we will not become them just because we choose to fight.
quakerboy
(14,097 posts)And What we have so far is words. Probably reflecting the reality, but in my opinion what I saw at that debate was enough to justify very high level behind the scenes conversations and negotiations, and things sometimes change very quickly in life.
I would not support a hostile fight to remove Biden from being our nominee.
I am voting for the democratic nominee.
Biden has had one of the best presidencies of my lifetime. Assuming he is the nominee, I will vote for him again, because whatever the situation behind the scenes, it is working well.
But what i saw at the debate was profoundly disturbing. Enough so i would be very open to him stepping back for the good of the nation. And voting for a different person as nominee. That was not the case before I watched the debate.
EarlG
(22,453 posts)I hear you saying that Biden has done a great job as president -- one of the best in your lifetime in fact -- and that you will vote for him. That's all I need to hear.
Biden has announced that he's staying in and he's going to fight. There's no "assuming" he will be the nominee. He IS the nominee. So either fight for him, or get out of the way. It's time to project strength, not weakness.

Even left wing media are vultures, that's what they do. They're out for a "story" and if there isn't one, they will kinda pressure you into one.
How it is:
"Are you supporting Biden?"
"Yeah, yeah"
"What did you think of his debate performance?"
"Well it wasn't very good"
"Do you support him withdrawing?"
"Well no"
"What would you do to help him"
"Well, were gonna have a meeting"
"OK"
Story:
Dems will have a meeting to discuss Biden's withdrawal.
How it should be:
"Are you supporting Biden?"
"Of course I am. Why do you ask?"
"What did you thinking of his debate performance?"
"I want to know what you thought of Trump's awful, horrific, lying, most bigoted debate performance in the history of debates. Now good bye"

No one is guaranteed anything in this world - a candidate could be 40 years old and killed in a car accident at any time. Biden beat Trump once already so he's a great candidate (as we already decided in the primary). If something happened and VP Harris is suddenly the candidate, then I've got her as well.
I truly cannot think of anything worse than another 4 years of Trump. He literally told people to drink bleach the last time he was allowed in the White House. IDK why anyone considers him a serious candidate.

(7,195 posts)They obviously don't. With Hillary we had the e-mails and secret servers. When the MAGA crowd accused the Democratic party of running a child sex ring out of a pizza shop they helped publicize it. After all they did to Hillary in the name of important news, I don't want to hear their opinions on who should run for president as a Democrat. The MAGA could say that they would install a convicted felon dictator as President and the media would focus on Biden's age. OMG They did.
Can you imagine what GOP lies they'll amplify against a Democrat who replaces Biden. I don't believe we will give them what they want, but we need to remember that the GOP has no conscience to stop them from making things up or even for admitting they lied when caught red handed. The media will report their lies as truth until the lies are so conclusively dis-proven that even they have to look for a sparkly new toy to keep their audience watching. A different candidate won't fix the problem.
If our democracy is going to be destroyed. I want to at least to be able to say that I didn't fall for the BS that equates being old with being a self admitted opponent of democracy, rule of law, and common human decency.
