Social Media has already started thanking Veterans

for 4th of July.
Every holiday is made into Veterans Day.

This one especially now should be about our democracy!

they want. If others get on board, no biggie. Not a concern what people individually put on their own social media page.

The cultural fetishization of overvaluing military service to the point of misappropriating holidays is disgusting to this veteran. Let’s celebrate our independence today without the claptrap thank you for your service.

said I should always wear a hat, so I wear a Vietnam Veteran hat. When people say "Thank you for your service" my reply is "I beat the shit out of an old woman and stole her hat." Instead of thanking me for my service, contact your senators and congressmen and demand they fully fund the VA.

for creating something to wash down the bratwurst.

And for giving us good alternatives to warm, sweet, English beer.

Happy fourth!

I think I'll pour a Sam Adams Boston Lager for lunch. It don't get much more patriotic than a celebration of Samuel Adams!

Members of the military, some of my ancestors included, fought and died for what we celebrate on the 4th. The next potential president's cult is doing everything they can to destroy the result of that victory.

That being said, the day is about the adoption of the document declaring our independence, not the process of getting us there. So, yes, I agree that people have wandered a bit.

Veterans' Day is for all of us who served. Memorial Day is for those who served but aren't with us anymore.

"Happy Memorial Day" is almost as bad as "Have a nice funeral".

And Siwsan, thank you for your service!

To say, "Thanks for your service" than to pony up the tax dollars to actually fund the programs veterans need. Now excuse me, there's a mattress sale I HAVE to take advantage of.

I know of one WWI memorial near me that was dedicated on July 4th, 1924 (so exactly a century ago) complete with a reading of the Declaration of Independence and Preamble to the Constitution in addition to the main speeches on recognizing those remembered by the Doughboy statue. They probably didn't want to compete with a nearby monument to the Spanish American War on Memorial Day, so they went for a different holiday.

But yeah, today is for recognizing our Independence.
