(13,480 posts)A. G. Sulzberger is the grandson of Ochs, who purchased the paper in 1896. While the Times has shareholders, all the voting stockand thus all the management decisionsare in the hands of family members. As the Publisher of the NYT, Sulzberger makes its publishing decisions, and he seems to have a vendetta against Biden because Trump invited him to the WH twice during his term and Biden has not given the Times a private interview.
Im sure most readers remember how the Times harped on Hillary Clintons emails daily as if she were the only government official to have a private server. Karl Rove used a private server for all messages leading up to the Iraq War and then illegally deleted them to avoid the press finding out their contents. The Times helped paint Hillary as a major lawbreaker but after the election we learned that she had three confidential emailsnot top-secret documents like the ones Trump illegally tookand I think at least one of them had been classified after it was sent to her. In other words, the Times made a mountain out of a molehill, and its doing the same to Biden now for one bad day.

(13,003 posts)everyone I know has cancelled their NYT on line subscriptions, including me.
It has to be hurting them, which they certainly deserve with all this extreme shit they are publishing.
Now I am being hammered with spam by them, and phone calls to re-subscribe for 99 cents a year.........That leads me to believe that it has hurt them seriously...........
And, unless I have been mis-informed, given their new editor, WaPo better be careful too................

(18,881 posts)(For the NYT, that is), they will never get very many conservatives to subscribe to them and their liberal readers are dropping them en masse. I saw a right wing coworker sitting near me recoil and gasp because he accidentally clicked on a link to one of their stories before quickly clicking away. This was a grown man. They laughably think the NYT is liberal propaganda. No, just corporate propaganda. The NYT started earning that title decades ago by publishing Judith Millers continual shilling for the Iraq invasion.

(38,642 posts)He is registered to vote at his current address (which might be the same as his prior address - the information I'm finding is mixed as to whether he moved in 2017 or 2022), but I haven't been able to find his voting record online. Voting record is also public, but generally it requires a trip to the BOE, and since this is a 7/4 op ed, and the BOE is closed on 7/4, I'm just wondering how capitolhunter was able to fact check so quickly.
There's an awful lot of confirmation bias posting going on recently (which then gets reposted as fact and spread far and wide, regardless of whether it is true).

(38,642 posts)In my initial search I did find a link to a bluesky article about the op ed, but the article had apparently been retracted (no explanation given).
W_HAMILTON
(10,333 posts)And I'm sure you are well aware that each state has its own rules and that, no, a trip to the BOE is not required in every state to see a voter's history. Mine is another state where there is an easily accessed website where one can do that at any time.
Ms. Toad
(38,642 posts)I asked a question, which was answered with the information I needed, and "generally" is not an assertion that all states work the same way.
After verifying each of the other assertions in the Xitter post (as I generally do when a post linked to contains unsupported assertions that play into confirmation bias), I asked the OP if the author of the Xitter post provided evidence for the only piece of information I couldn't independently verify.
They apparently didn't, since the verification that was provided came from a completely different person, using a source other than the Michigan BOE.
The verification came from an independent national organization, and was gathered on April 1, 2023. Before asking if the source provided any verification, I had already found Walther's voter registration on the Michigan website by tracking down his address and birthdate, so I could confirm his registration. But his voting record was not available on the Michigan website. (So your state is not necessarily "another" state - for all I know, it's the only one.)
Had I claimed that Walther did not vote in the election, I would made the assertion flat out, and would have backed it up with fact-checking. That isn't what I did, I simply asked if the source had provided evidence. It's a bit rude of you to jump into a conversation you haven't been involved in simply to insert a "gotcha" comment - especially when reading with comprehension would have told you that there's no "gotcha."
W_HAMILTON
(10,333 posts)...but this isn't the first time you've been skeptical and immediately jumped to a contrarian viewpoint on information that was correct.
If your guiding light is the truth, I would suggest stop jumping to opposing conclusions and instead let the actual facts dictate your opinion; otherwise, you run the risk of being the one spreading misinformation -- as you did here -- rather than being the one to expose it.
Ms. Toad
(38,642 posts)You won't be able to, because I never said it.
You are the one spreading misinformation here, not me. Fortunately, the entire communication is available so if anyone wants to confirm what I did or did not say, it is in plain sight.

The NYT has never shrunk from trying to keep the unwashed away from the polls. They fancy themselves the paper of record for the elite, the cocktail circuit set, the ones with debutante daughters whose only job is to marry within their class and sons who started at the top as soon as they graduated Wharton with a "gentleman's C,"
I remember how they dragged their feet on reporting that the Vietnam War was unwinnable or that Nixon was not only a crook, but a clumsy one. The only good parts were the NYT Review of Books and the NYT Magazine, both of which you could buy without having to buy the paper, itself.
