This is my first time starting a discussion here, so my apologies if this has been posted and discussed before. An article came out back in late April about an apparent feud between the Biden administration and the NYT brass. Basically, they're big mad that POTUS won't sit down for an interview with their "prestigious" rag, and they're also pissy over some instances where they think the White House staff weren't appropriately deferential to them. So, they've been pushing hard on this "Biden is old" thing for some time. What a bunch of crybullies.

(12,412 posts)So, Im not sure they are trying to knock Biden out for some petty/conspiratorial reason. Go back several weeks and see the articles on trumps trials, sleeping in court, bonking a porn star, etc.
My guess is Biden will schedule many interviews in next few months.
For one thing, I think hell get a lot of viewers in an environment where he can answer questions, even if they are really tough questions.

(5,370 posts)and Sulzberger. Trump's WH also leaked like a sieve, which made reporters' jobs very easy. Many laymen do not know how lazy the media is. They'd rather do gossip than policy. One even talked about how much he loved covering Trump. Stories dumped in his lap every day. As for Biden, Sulzberger said outright that Biden cannot be considered fit for the presidency until he does an interview with the New York Times. I do not exaggerate.

(2,662 posts)It reached its zenith during the JFK years with the media lapping it up, and the Beltway media, which I call the Beltway Mob, got it in their heads every subsequent president "owed" them. This was especially egregious during the Clinton years and lay at the root of their promoting endless GOP-created bullshit "scandals" against the Clintons which they KNEW to be bullshit.
Why were the media so hostile to the Clintons? Two reasons: One was the pair didn't have the right "pedigree," especially Bill. Neither attended the hoity-toity private schools but went to public schools and actually worked hard to get those so-called "elite" university bachelor's and law degrees. The snobs considered Bill a hillbilly from Hicksville because he came from Hope, Arkansas. The Beltway Mob has a lot of prejudice against people from the southern part of the U.S. The pair were also outsiders, just like the Carters were, and they, too, were hated by the Beltway Mob.
Moreover, they, or rather Hillary, refused to kiss Sally Quinn's royal ass when Hillary first arrived in D.C. Quinn was a failed journalist who basically slept her way to the top at the Washington Post by marrying Ben Bradlee, and later reinvented herself as the Hostess with the Mostest in D.C. "society." She was the opposite of Bill and Hillary Clinton, who worked for everything they had.
It was that petty. You had people like the late David Broder throwing a hissy fit against the Clintons, especially Bill, because he "soiled" the White House with all the fake "scandals."
These "journalists" all stick together like clockwork. It was true sixty years ago with JFK, it was true thirty years ago with the Clintons, and it is true now with the Bidens.

(11,780 posts)I suppose they want to see a tight race. There should be no reason in hell for it to be close. If the news would report honestly on Trump I dont even think all the magats would stick with him.

You are right about the interview thing...
as well as that, they are owned by GQP MAGATs, who call the shots....
They demand that President Biden 'withdraw from the race',
while ignoring the nazi-wannabe CRAZY FUCKING SHIT
coming out of Trump's pie-hole....
and the fact that he's a convicted felon adjudicated rapist
and pedophile pathological liar--- etc etc etc

The Beltway Mob is collectively a vile clique.

(4,677 posts)WaPo, Boston Globe, New Republic, Atlantic, Atlanta Journal, Economist, Time, Denver Post, dozens of others. I don't think they're all suddenly "pissy" because Biden didn't give them an interview.
The denial here is disturbingly off the charts. Polls show somewhere around 80% of the country think Biden is too old for another four year term, and many of those were taken before the debate. This has been a BIG concern for nearly everyone who hasn't buried themselves in hermetically sealed speech-policed hugbox bunkers like DU. Frankly, if the stakes hadn't been so high with the historically unprecedented threat of Trump, and after the lessons of Ginsburg and Feinstein, there probably would have been a movement last year (which would have included a lot of genuine progressives) to try and force a Dem primary. Instead, in the interest of preserving maximum unity in the face of Trump, everyone stayed silent and prayed for the sake of the country that Biden's team were telling the truth when they said that aside from walking a little slower he was still sharp as a tack and ready to pummel Trump.
The debate shattered that hope, and the panic is widespread and very real.

(2,662 posts)the "Beltway Mob," I call them, is a clique. Yes, they can work for different newspapers and wire services, but most of our media today are owned by a handful of corporations, and their "reporters" toe the line given to them by editors, publishers, owners. Thanks to the Rupertization of the media, if they can't find a real story, they publish GOP talking points and call it news. If that fails, no worries--they will literally make stories up just like the UK's Daily Mail does all the time with the Royal Family. Janet Cooke and Jayson Blair, who were THEY? The press corps people know each other, they socialize after hours at Sally Quinn-type social gatherings, their kids go to the same hoity-toity private schools, and they often schmooze with politicians, which the media loves because it is a major way they gain "access."
The media have always done this. It isn't a conspiracy but is simple fact they are a clique with a gigantic sense of entitlement.
